X3i, USB, CompactFlash (CF) and GPS
Hi,

I have just got a X3i. I do have a CF GPS card and I do have a Sandisk USB CF card reader (the PC style).

Am I able to hock the CF-GPS into the CF-USB reader into my X3 USB connector? What other accesories do I need?

GPS(CF)->CF-2-USB->X3 USB activesync

Best regards,

Likely not.

USB card readers will not work with most CF accessories (other than memory cards). Also, the X3 USB connector will only allow you to sync/send files/etc. It will not allow you to use it as an input port to hook up accessories like a GPS, Printer, etc. This is because the X3 is not meant to be a USB Host device, nor does it have the proper circuitry to allow for this.

Make sense, Thank you for the explanation. My next question will be: What are my posibilities to use my current CF-GPS or any other CF device (not memory) with the X3i? Is it a big NULL?

For the time being, yes, it is a "big NULL."

However, Mugen Power (makers of the 2000mAh and 3800mAh Axim X5 batteries) is considering the development of an extended battery "sleeve" for the X3/X3i that would also have built in CompactFlash slot and Bluetooth. I don't think they have finalized the decision on developing this device, but I know they have been working on it at least. They are first going to release a standard and extended X3/X3i battery, so this CF/Bluetooth battery "sleeve" will likely be a bit down the road even if it is released.
