Spot on my X3i LCD Screan!!!
My 2-week old xi3 had a little "disfigurement" about a couple of days ago. There is a little unequal spot on the LCD. The spot spreads bigger (2-3 cm) sometimes and also shrinks back to a small spot (about 0.5cm) sometimes. It doesn't really effect the view of the LCD but makes me unhappy. I don't know how it happened. Does anyone has the same experience before? I think I would like to request for a replacement from Dell. Can anyone tell me what should I do? Thanks.

I assume your not using a screen protector? Coz the obvious less painful explanation is it's an air bubble if you do.

If not...then I think you gotta problem!

I also had the same problem but mine was bigger and eventually went away. The problem is the case the x3i comes with because of the belt buckle. If you put the screen facing belt buckle in the case this will happen. This is probably the problem so remember to put it in that way so this doesn't happen. But if this isn't the after doing this it doesn't go away I recomend that you contact dell.

Actually I kinda liked that last sentence, put me in a 90's State of Mind.

"It depends on what the meaning of the word "is" is. If the--if he--if "is" means is and never has been, that is not--that is one thing. If it means there is none, that was a completely true statement. - William Jefferson Clinton --Grand jury testimony, August 17, 1998"

On topic:

Your "spot" is probably a moire pattern (a visiual interference pattern) being generated between the two plastic layers of the digitizer. Between these two layers is a gel, when any kind of pressure is put upon the screen over a large area, this gel is displaced a bit and the two layers are forced closer together, allowing the creation of the moire pattern. On my Axim it looks a lot like an irregular "island" of a Mandelbrot Set, usually longer top to bottom, approximately in the center of the screen.

This happens to me occasionally when the foam lining of my PocketSolutions CoverUp is squeezed against my screen. It will normally clear itself up (you can actually see the pattern getting smaller).

If it is a bit more persistent, you can gently "massage" the screen with your thumbs from the outer edge towards the center, to redistribute the gel more quickly. Click the links above for more information. [/b][/quote]

Yep, my original Dell case gave one to my x3i a day after I bought it, just rub it a little bit and it should come out. It scared the crap out of me too!

I had this problem when I first applied a screen protector..after removing and re-applying the screen protector a couple of times, it went away.

Had a spot on my first & now on my 2nd
I really wanted a PDA, the "x3i". I have a business that I need appointments to be kept. So, I bought one. I really like it. However, after 3 weeks, the screen wouldn't respond, moreover, there was a spot in the middle of the screen. I called Tech support, and they were able to send me a new one. Now I have another spot forming, after one month. This spot is larger. I do not carry it around in my pocket, there is never any undue position that would press on the screen. I called tech support and when I gave my Service Tag #, they had no record of the replacement unit service tag #. And as I peered into the case; I now noticed a sticker that was printed"Refurbished". I was upset that I purchased a new unit and now i'm being sent a used one back. I don't know about you, but I spent good money, and a lot of it, for a high tech device; I sure would like it to be new, especially only after about 3 weeks after purchase. Dell is sending me a new one, at my emphatic request, I am just worried that I have bought an item that will not last the test of time. Warranties only last so long.

Re: Had a spot on my first & now on my 2nd
So why you had the spots on your screen?

Also, the spot on my screen doesn't really go away after I did massage to it several times. Maybe I did it in the wrong way? I don't know. If the spot doesn't go away at all (maybe one more week), I might really need to call Dell for replacement. If I call Dell, then what happened if they send me a refurbished one too?! .... sign....

I actually got my replacement today after making this post. I looked in the battery case and what did I see? There was another sticker that said "Refurbished". This was a pisser. Even after I was assured that I was to get a new one this time. I called Dell and was able to talk directly to a manager. She said she would send a new one this time. I am really pissed! I told them to document all of this and if this problem continues I wish to have a refund. The saga continues. I just would like to know if there is a fault in the screen for this model. If so, we need to know. If you send it back; you will get a "refurbished" one. Their policy is that if you have it over thirty days, you have to get a redone unit back! Yea.

I just got my x3i about 3 weeks ago. Anyway, your experience scared me.... Now I have to reconsider the way to solve it.

Dell sucks!!
