Wireless Stopped Working
Hey guys,
I have the axim x3i. I had it for about 4 days and it was working great with wireless but today tried to connect at work and it says page can not be found. I am getting a valid ip address and I am able to ping websites. Everything looks the way it was when it was working before. Can anyone tell me what the problem might be? Any settings I might have to change? Please help!!!!!!

Well I have to say, I had the very same thing happen to me last night with my home WiFi network. I couldn't get my X3i to connect in at all. Waited about an hour later and it worked fine though. Have no idea what caused the problem or what fixed it.

I had the same thing happen during the first few days. I ended up unplugging the wireless router and unconnecting the network cable from the router and waiting a bit and then hooked it up again. Everything's been fine since then. It's the scientific method!

I started to have the same problem a few weeks ago. Wifi worked flawlessly for a couple months. Then one night the connection started to drop intermittently. Yesterday and today has been worse than usual. I had to do soft resets to get the wifi to operate. I know it's not the router since my wireless card on my laptop has yet to lose connection.

I have problems connecting when someone uses the 2.4ghz phones in the house. The best thing I did was put a lynksys booster on the wireless router.

What kind of effective range does that give you(the booster). I've been thinking of getting one. I would like to stream to my axim while cutting the lawn this summer, that would rock!

I have had my X3i for about 3 weeks now, and I have had the same intermittant problem both at work and home.

Seems like a roll of the dice whether it will a) work fine, b) not associate with my SSID c) not recognize the WEP encryption key or d) fail to get an IP address. I usually just keep pushing the wireless enable/disable button until it works. Even then, it will ocassionally just drop the connection for no apparent reason.

I just applied Dell's X3 ROM update and tried several disconnect/reconnect cycles without a single failure... which is better than I can say it's ever done before. Crossing my fingers...

I do not think this is wi-fi or x3/x5 only issue.

I hard reset my x5 and used PIE via both wi-fi and via cell phone GPRS signal flawlessly for 2 weeks. Suddenly on the last day of my trip, the god damn "page you are looking for..." starts acting up and continues at home with wi-fi. Another program that uses the internet (storm chaser) cannot connect as well.

There must be something in wm2003 that just screws this up. I've wasted so many hours on this. I've analysed all connection setting without sucess. Any ideas? Thanks

I have the same problem on my two computers at home. I do not have my X5 on the WiFi yet but when this happens for the computers I have to "Release All" and then "Renew All" IP Addresses for the network and then it works OK. I think the unplugging or resetting is just doing this. Do you have any software that came with your card or your Axim that will allow this operation.

Hope This helps

I'm having similar problems with my Axim5, with upgrade to WM2003. The netgear MA701 card I had worked fine for months then started giving the unknown card error, asking for the device driver name. Ok, no help from netgear. I got a SanDisk connect+ card, the wifi with 128mg memory; same problem. I even borrowed a linksys card from a friend, installed it with the same erro message. I currently have an email in to Dell tech support. I have gotten the automated reply, but nothing else yet (just sent the email a couple of hours ago). At first, I thought it was the Netgear card, but now I'm 99% convinced it's the Axim cardslot.

I finally tried a hard reset on my X3i as a last resort and now the wifi is working flawlessly again, just like the first two months. My main concern now is whether the wifi on the X3i will eventually start degrading again. Not sure if I should just keep this one or try to get Dell to send me a replacement just in case.

I really don't think that's the cure and the suggestions below from tnayrbj and MrKlaatu are great and I'm onto something. I have an ip address of 169... that I can't get rid of and think its left over from a hotel I was in last week.

Thanks to the link www.cam.com and http://www.cam.com/vxipconfig.html is the release/renew tool although the other one was great too.

Will report later, Joshua
