Unplug the cradle and plug it into another USB port. I used to get this all the time but now I only sync wirelessly.

Thank you I have tried all 3 USB ports and then checked with the device mgr. and it still shows unknown device. Called dell and jumped through all the hoops w/tec support, they believe it to be in the sync cable. So they are sending me a new one. My fingers are crossed.

I can't friggin' believe this! I got a new laptop at work and started having problems syncing. Sometimes if I connected several times it would sync. Finally, I could only sync once after I booted the PC. Then I would get the "unknown device" issue.

Today it wouldn't sync at all. I have been looking for 5-6 months for a fix. Finally, I read that all I have to do is change USB ports? That did the trick! Thanks!

If my laptop had multiple USB ports I would try this suggestion. I have only one usb port. Thanks
