Memory
In first: excuse my english because i am a poor frenchy......

I bought a dell axim x3. I look for the memory and i see:
-Principal memory: 63.29
-stckage card: 34.81

But i paid for 64Mo+64Mo.

I think my dell dan't have the memory i bought.
I speek with dell support and he explain to me "if there is a diference, it is because there is the restore file and i can't see it."

For me there is a difference and i don't have the good axim.

And you what is it write in your memory capacity?

Thank for look my message.

I believe that the Principal Memory is the RAM, and any programs you have running at the time you check would take away a little bit from that. so that should explain the 63.29. The Storage Card I believe is the Built In Storage. Stored in there is the Image for the OS. Whenever you do a hard reset this is where it will pull from. On mine the OS image seems to take up about 26 MB, but I have an X5 not an X3, so that could be where the difference lies.

Hopefully this helps.

The main memory (principal) is 64Meg, and should read in the 63.29 or somewhere around there - a little overhead.

The 34.81 on the storage card, if it is 64Meg should have the capacity as about the same. You could be looking at the free space.
Did you check these numbers from Settings->Memory->Storage Cards and then select the card from the pull dowm?
If so, there should be a bar across the middle which indicates how mucn memory is being used (filled up from the left). Above that there is an "In use:" number and a "Free:" number. Together these should total the amount of memory. So if you have 34.81 free, you should have something like 29 (or so) used.

(Your English is fine.)

I think what hasn't been mentioned yet that you should know is that this is completely NORMAL! No PDA has all of the advertised memory accessible. The missing memory in 'built-in storage' is used up to run the operating system PPC 2003; just like a desktop uses RAM to run Windows XP. The other memory...63.29 is close enough to 64 to not worry about it. Rarely if ever are advertised storage numbers exactly accurate...for examply my 256 mb CF card only has 244 mb available. There are different reasons why that is for each but in general you have nothing to worry about...your axim is just fine. Of course, it is a bummer that no one explains these things before you buy! I hope that helps.

One thing...I said 'just like a desktop uses RAM to run Windows XP'....well, I am sure it is not 'just' like that and others could tell you all of the really smart reasons why but I just wanted to give you an idea of what uses the memory.

Thanks a lot for your reply!
The difference betwen 64Mo i've bought and the memory is display in the storage card is the restore file. But Dell don't say that when we buy this computer. I keep my axim X3 because it's a good pda. But i'am hungry with dell because they don't say that.
Thank to uzziah0 for my good english (it's dificult for me to write in english, but it's a good exercise!)
A+
