Got the X3i, no wifi
Well got the X3i yesterday.

I don't know what is going on but I can't seem to find my wirless router when I scan.

I can find some elses wireless access point no problem! How frustrating. I have no other wireless devices, just the new x3i so I can't even be sure the router is even functioning corretly. I have spent the last five hours try to get it to work.

Any suggestions anyone?

Have you got SSID Broadcast enabled on your router? If so, disable it and try again. Also, temporarily disable WEP encryption just to make sure that your Axim can connect to your router.

Infratructure mode???
I see this in my router manual:

I wonder if this could be my problem. I have a USR8054 g wireless router.

Note: Each wireless card in the wireless network must have Infrastructure mode selected in the Configuration Utility. Refer to your wireless card documentation for information on selecting Infrastructure mode.

Infrastucture mode? How the heck does one set that?

Or is it already set :-)

Anyone know? :-)

Dave

It's already set. It's the default. Maybe your router is set to only allow G connections. The X3i uses a B connection.

Yes, that is one more thing you can check: Make sure that your router is broadcasting in mixed (b & g) mode.

Thought that too. But it says it is backward compatable all the way down to a. Double checked the USR website.

THis is crazy! It can't be this difficult to get this to work. It's nuts!

Anyone else out there runing a USR Wireless router???

How do I do that though. I see no settings for that. I will look again in the config utility.

Thanks for your help.

It depends on your particular model. For example, at home I have a Netgear WGT624 b/g 108Mbs firewall/router, and I can set the mode to b only, g only, and mixed, in the Wireless Settings section. However, at work we have a Netgear FWAG114 a/b/g firewall/router, and there is no option to set mixed mode, so it is always broadcasting in mixed mode. Check your documentation or help file to see if you can find out where it is, if you have that option.

Can someone advise where the powersave mode is for the wifi card built into the x3i - I've not been able to connect to my Dlink DWL-2000 AP yet and am trying everything mentioned in these posts.

Thanks

Tony

Thanks. I have just got that set up and i've also got my problem sorted. For anyone out there that has a Dlink DWL2000AP the solution is to update the firmware. I hadnt had the device that long and because my laptop was working with it that was the one thing I didnt check but there is a 2.05b4 release just before Christmas. I have applied that and all is well (although the PC based executable doesnt seem to be too hot with it, the browser admin area is fine)

I can now get onto my lan and pick up emails. The only thing I cant do at the moment is browse the web. I have a PC with a Cable modem plugged into it using Internet connection sharing and it works fine from my wifes PC here bit the x3i says I need to set up a proxy server but I dont have one because I use ICS

Thanks again
