Screen troubles
Today I turned on my Axim X3i only to find that the entire screen was white in color with thin multi-color lines running up and down on the right half of the screen. I have tried both soft and hard resets numerous times with no success. This was very depressing to see this happen to my nice little Axim. Has anyone ever heard of this before? I will probably just have to call Dell and have them send out a replacement. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

never seen that before. i wonder if the connection between the hardware and the screen was shaken loose or damaged. has your axim had any close calls lately?

Did you softreset and take the battery out or the battery went dead at the same moment?

I have had this screen once with my ipaq, I had to softreset and at the moment I did it, bamn! no power, and I had that white screen with color lines.

So I phoned up tech support and they told me to turn it on and wait, after a half hour still nothing, I called back and they said hardreset. That did the trick

I have dropped the Axim a few times but I have the Rhino Skin case and it has kept it safe. It has never fallen from anything higher than about 3ft. I'm am thinking that you are right jpmarth. It really seems like that's what happened. If Dell can't do anything for me, does anyone know about any good places for repair? Is this a fix that might be able to be done at home?

MY SCREEN IS HOSED TOO
My Axim X3 has the same issue - I turned it on one day, and all it dispayed vertical multi-colored lines on the screen. It does not respond to the stylus or any of the buttons. Soft and Hard resets have no effect. Removing the battery for an extended peiod of time doesn't work. If I put it in its cradle, my PC doesn't even recognixe that it is there anymore.

I'm really torqued because this thing is only 4 weeks old, and I bought it brand new from a schmuck on ebay who must have removed the service tag, because it does not have one. So, Dell will not repair it (or any other Dell product) without a service tag (or so they say). Anyone have any ideas on what is causiing this problem? Any suggestions on repair shops?

Hi, I've not had my Axim long either, only I was stupid and dropped my Axim and it doesn't bounce! I'm 'fortunate' that only half my screen shows the vertical coloured lines. I spoke with Dell Support (UK) and they stated that Dell does not repair the Axim. I asked about a Service manual, and I was directed to this site. Does anybody know of a Service manual for the Axim?

F&%$%§&%$!!!!! Same Thing here!
ARGH!

I switched my Axim on tonight and got to see the exact same thing!
Nothing works, not a soft, not a hardreset.
I even removed the battery, nothing!

So, I guess my little unit is up sh.. creek without a paddle.

Luckily, I bought this from Dell, and I still have my service tag.

So, I have to wait till tomorrow morning until I get to talk to a service rep.

We'll see what my guarantee is worth...

Especially since my unit is only 2 months old. (We just got to know each other)

Hint: The service tag is underneath the battery. You have to remove the battery to see the number.

Hi, It sounds like your unit is like mine, and the dipslay is broken. I have already contacted Dell about my problem, so they know I dropped it so they wont replace it under warranty (Dell said they do not repair them). I dismantled the Axim to check and see if there were any loose connections. I also checked the display but it is a sealed unit. I put it back together and t still does not work. So, I am definitely up sh.. creek without a paddle!

I think DEll will replace yours so you should be ok. Good luck

Yep..
I never dropped my Axim.
My baby!!!

Called Dell this morning and after walking me through totally useless soft reset/hard reset/wakeup routines, the tech rep agreed to send me another (new or used, I do not know) unit.

This afternoon, the courier called to confirm the dropoff adress for tomorrow morning, so tomorrow evening I should be back up and running.

(With a report here)
