No WiFi Reconnect at Power off/on
Hi,

I got my x3i the other day and it connected perfectly to my WiFi network. The only issue seems to be when I power it off and then when turing it back on to use it again. After turning it back on it doesn't detect the WiFi Network. I have to turn the WiFi it option on the Axim off then on again with the WiFi button. I checked the Dell WiFi utility while I turned to Axim back on and it seems to be scanning channels but never the channel that it is supposed to scan (channel 6). It must go through every channel number but that one. Well I looked again at the utility after I shut the Axim WiFi off then back on and it found channel 6 in seconds. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,
Jay

You need to go to Site Survey and see if you see your network listed. If you see it list hit Profiles and it will list recent connections you have connected to and which are avalible and which aren't. It should say your connection is avalible so tap and hold on your network and a menu should pop up saying if you want to connect or remove settings. Tap connect and your connection should then try to connect. Sometimes doesn't connect on the first try so keep trying until it connects. Once it does just close out the page and you can go check the status of your connection on the status tab.

Sometimes i guess a wierd IP address in my status screen. If you get a 169.254.216.68 IP address then hit renew IP until you get one on your network.

Hope this helps.

There's got to be a better way of doing this!

It's the only issue for me as well. I wonder why the wifi driver doesn't just start from scratch when a power cycle is done.

My X3i is going back to Dell. I am having the same WiFi problems. I have to go into my router to broadcast the SSID and allow MAC addresses. Then turn on the X3i. Then go back into the router once the X3i finds a IP and set my security settings back. And do this all over again each time I want to us WiFi on the X3i…

This is to much BS to go through. I’ll spend the extra $ and get a laptop

I don't have these problems. I am using a static IP address with my Axim. Are you using DHCP? If so, try a static IP. I have SSID broadcast disable and MAC filtering enabled. Every time I hit the WIFI, it connects. Hope this helps. Good luck

Yes I have tried static IP. Dell WLAN Utility site survay sees it but status won't pick it up. I just get "Unable to obtain a server assigned IP". As soon as I reenable SSID, POOF I get a connection.

Are manually connecting like said? You can't except it to connect on its own. It sometimes does but mostly not.

Mine does the same thing with the power off. I have to hit the WiFi on/off button, or go into the settings and choose the network to connect to as well.

Mine just died and Dell is sending a brand spankin' new one! I'll let you know if the new one is fixed ;-)

I'm not sure what you mean by manually connecting HighTymes. I turn my X3i on, hit the WiFi button and I get no signal until I go into my router and broadcast SSID. I have tried a static IP, Mac address. My be I just didn’t look into this PDA / WiFi thing, I turn on my laptop and bam I’m on line. Yes I do expect it to connect with out having to drop every security setting I have on my router so the X3i can connect. That's kind of pointless to have to go to my desktop and change the router settings when I want to surf on my PDA.

I was on the phone with Dell Tech for over four hours. They offered to swap out but said I can talk to "WiFi tech" first if I want. I chose to talk to WiFi tech. After 45 mins on hold I got disconnected. I tried to call back with the extension the second person gave me and it was a tech extension for printers. So I started from square one on the phone and never got to talk to a human after being on hold for two more hours. At that point I e-mailed tech and asked for a return and a refund. That was Sunday. I got an e-mail yesterday that some one would contact me for a refund/ return. I’m just a little disheartened by the tech end of Dell. Also they over charged me and charged for shipping when it was to be free..

Are you sure?

No internet on your computer.

If your computer is connected to the internet and you put your axim in the cradle you are using internet passing through your computer.

For your wireless settings it seems like you have something set incorrectly. I honestly dont think there is anything wrong with your Axim

I agree I think I have something set wrong, But what? I have started from scratch a bunch of times and can't seem to get a consistant connection. My desktop has internet. My braodband comes in the house to the high speed modem to the router (D-Link 614+). then to a total of three desktops and one laptop all with wep, Mac and no broadcart of SSID.

I did a hard reset with Dell tech three times and I would have a connection/ lose connection. At the point he (Dell tech) said swap it or talk to "WiFi tech". I went with WiFi tech and never got to talk to anyone.

It is a setting some were.
