The X3i SSID issue...
or at least the one I was having, where the Dell Wlan utility would not connect with a router unless the SSID was broadcast at least once has been fixed for me by using pocketwinc ver.1.3.
I've tested it on multiple AP's where I knew the SSID but it wasn't being broadcast, it has worked w/out a hitch.

I've had v1.3 installed for awhile, and still won't let me connect to the Cisco APs that aren't broadcasting. Although my X5 with Socket card connects to them just fine.

I wonder if the brand router has anything to do with it? The ones I've connected to so far have all been d-link or linksys. The process I've used so far is:
Winc detects the AP as (blank name) in the upper pane, I then click/hold in the "preferred networks" bottom pane and select the "add and connect" option, then put in the requisite SSID. It adds the name, and still shows it as non-functional at the bottom, but the one at the top then goes to the antenna icon, then red square, then green square, and then I can pull an ip, etc.

Are you putting in the WEP key along with the requisite name for the SSID? It's detecting the blank "" SSID and when I put in a new connection with the SSID the blank one turns into a red square but not a green one. Any ideas? I'm using an X30 624 mhz.
