Problems with wifi please help im a newbie!
Well i collected my dell axim x3i just a couple a days ago. Then i tried to connect trough wi-fi at my friends house. It worked out good. So i went to the store to by a d-link wireless router but know i cant connect to the internet, well at first i could browse some websites but then it said that i had to configure my connection settings and when i did that it didn't work anymore. If i true to connect to for example www.google.com it just says "The page you are looking for cannot be found". So what can the problem be ? It's strange because i have obtained an ip adress and everything seems to work. please help me !!!

Do a search on the site and you'll find plenty of company, but check this recent thread. I did a quick summary of what I've seen as causes and solutions, and a couple of other users added their experience.

Try turning off the Wi-Fi powersave mode and see if that helps.

I´ve tried most of the things that you wrote, but nothing works. I also tried to use the netfront browser but i get an error message that says "Cannot read page. Check connection. TypeNS no server specified.".

same for me. tried hard rest, disable power save etc.. but no go. sometimes it'll load up a page but mostly won't load anything. i know it's not my router (had an x5 and CF symbol card and it worked great).

I guess i'll try the ROM update, but since it got pulled from dell's site i'm reluctant to install it.

the other thing is the range on the X3i wireless doesn't seem very good at all. i can't get acces to my router from outside my house whereas the symbol card had no problems with my x5.

right now the wifi on my axim is pretty much useless.. i need to get this fixed!

I had a similar problem. And what fix it was this part from Ikehiker Wifi guide:

For most home networks, you should not have the PPC set to use a proxy server. Several users have mistakenly set this in Windows Mobile 2003. To change it, check Start, Settings, Connections (tab), Connections, Set up my proxy server. The box "This network connects to the Internet" should be checked but uncheck the box "This network uses a proxy server to connect to the Internet" if it is checked.

I had checked the proxy server setting. I have a Axim advance. Hope this help.

Answer:
1. Open File Explorer
2. Go to Windows Folder
3. Scroll Down to the "W"s
4. Click on Welcome.exe
5. You will go through the welcome screen like you did when you first got your PPC

It works! BTW- It doesn't do a hard reset as you may think

I have the same prob as above - IM and POP3 work but not PIE - I checked the welcome.exe as discussed and it turns out I have 2 - 9/10/02 - 10.4K and 6/7/01 - 13B - when tapped I cannot delete either one - both take me to the set up screen and I had to do the realign thing.

Should I delete one somehow or what other advice can you give.

Mark,

Thanks for the heads up on this. I've added it to the troubleshooting section of the WiFi How-to.

A question though - does this 'stick?' By that I mean is it a one time deal that you have to do this or does the 'page not found' problem return after some point in time, requiring you to go through the welcome screen process again? If it returns, how long in between? If it's something that has to be done somewhat often, I suggest people make a shortcut to the welcome.exe program so they can put it in their Start Menu or Programs folder so it will be easier to access than by going through file explorer.

So far so good.

I think it will work until people delete: CMMapG, CMMapP, GcounterFile, mdmlog thinking they are not necessary. Those files have something to do with the connection manager, and that in turn affects PIE. Then by running the welcome screen, those files are restored.

I would keep both of the welcome files.

Just in case

The 13B file is a link to the executable 10.4K welcom.exe. I wouldn't delete it since it is probably being referenced.
