are wifi problems related to ROM version?

my x3i has a rom version of A00. I've noticed some people have A01. Just wondering if the problems with wifi are happening on A00 revisions, or if they're happening regardless of the version of ROM you have (I'm talking ROM version right out of the box)

My Wi-Fi hadn't worked in months, on any type/brand of access points wide-open or secured. And it had never worked on APs that were not broadcasting the SSID.... I'd create a profile for the AP, and it would never see it.

Installed A01 ROM and it worked like a charm on every access point, even those not broadcasting the SSID.

you mean the A01 ROM that was briefly posted on dell's site, or the updated drivers? i.e. my rom version says A00, and installing that A01 update doesnt' actually change my rom version since the update is just a set of drivers, not a new rom image.

even after the install, it didn't hlep me at all. if you go to system info, what is your rom version?

The A01 that was an actual ROM update (briefly posted on Dell's site).

The A01 "patch" you're referring to did nothing to get my WiFi working any better, and actually made it not connect to any access points. The A01 ROM update fixed everything.

Oh, and it shows A01 for the Version number after applying the true ROM update. Just cross your fingers and hope Dell works out whatever it is working out so that they get it posted again soon.

Have had my x3i for two months now and it shipped with ROM version A00. I have not had one bit of trouble with my Axim and the wifi connects flawlessly at 11Mb/s every time I turn it on. Link Quality (49-50db) and Strength (-39-41dBm).

Peace,

Rob Bond

Ya it is wierd how it says 11Mb/sec sometimes but the X3i is only capible of 2Mb/sec. I am looking at mine right now and it shows 11Mb/sec. I accually see it move from 2-5-11Mb/sec when syncing to my PC.

Figures, when i go to snap the shot my TX rate drop to 2Mb/sec then to 11Mb/sec after shot, lol. Probably because data is moving through.

I get VERY good link quality on my X3i :)

Why is the x3i only capable of 2mb/s? I was under the impression that it's wifi is 802.11b which is capable of 11mb/s.

Peace,

^^^^I had to hard start and then connect to computer through guess account. It worked after i did that. Some said turning firewall off helped them but didn't for me.
