wi-fi sporadic, can't get complete connectivity
I posted about this a few months ago, I still have this problem; my wifi works but will not stay connected, sometimes it needs a push from another program to kick the wifi into a receive data mode. Anyone else experience this? Did I explain the problem well enough? Is it possible my Axim needs repair or is bad?

Can you post more details?? Does it show the connected icon and then disconnect straight away?

Do you actually transfer information correctly at any stage?

How is it configured? Is power saving enabled?

Have you tried a soft/hard reset? Have you tried the click the welcome.exe thing on your handheld?

its a quirky problem, so it is hard to explain. For example, If i am in an instant message mode with someone, I will not get all of their replies. Only some will come through on time. Others need me to trick the axim into doing another task related to wifi (for example, checking pop mail). The second I do that function, the instant mesage will pop up from the person, many times I can tell from the timestamp, it is from a minute or a few minutes in the past. I do get connectivity, and when it does work, the speed is good. It just wont stay in connected mode. Another example, I could never do an "activesync" and then "stay connected" it wont stay connected. Finally, another example is with AvantGo, when I update the pages, you can see in the status bar, the update goes about 3/4 of the way through and then hangs. It almost NEVER will complete on its own. Powersave mode is not enabled. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Am I the lone ranger with this problem? If so, I will contact Dell for a replacement. This also happens in any Wifi area, my house or Starbucks.

other responses: I have done a hard reset and a soft reset and I have also done welcome.exe Other thing you should know, I never lose the actual Wifi connection, my connection is never broken, this is simply a data receive problem.

Very strange. Not sure how it could be a hardware problem though. Is this at home? What happens at a hotspot? Same issue?

I was going to suggest that it might just be your internet provider. I know that when things get busy on mine my connection will act up as you describe. You say that this happens when you are connected to other providers though. Hmmm , do you have a program that runs in the background or is set up to check for updates automatically? Like a virus program doing auto scans? If you do you might want to switch it to manual so it does not start up while you are trying to do something else.

Same problem
Hello,

I think I have the same pb as yours.

I connect to my PC via WIFI, and the communication gets broken after a while. Sometimes, it's just after a few seconds, sometimes more, but it's quite annoying, especially when it is in a middle of a sync.

It not a pb of location, as it can happen when the ppc is very close to the computer and without moving it. The only workaround I have is to deactivate then reactivate WIFI on the X3i.

I also notice that when it happens, the WIFI connection is apparently lost on my PC (which is apparently not the case for you). It does not come from my PC WIFI antenna as it works without any disconnections with my laptop.

I am interrested to know what Dell will say about this problem or if someone else encounters the same thing.

Xgrobil: They are sending me a replacement Axim. They said it is possible that the network card in the Axim is bad. What type of router do you use most often? At home I have a Linksys. I'm anxious to see if I have the same problem with the new Axim.

Hi,
I am connecting to my PC through a USB Wifi Key, brand SWEEX. It has been a few days since I have had the problem so I am wondering if I will contact Dell or not. Keep me informed when you have received your replacement. By the way, do you have to pay for the shipping for the replacement or for the return with Dell ?

I got the replacement Axim. Since I am under warranty, (the axim is only a couple months old) I did not have to pay for a replacement shipping or anything. The bad news is that the replacement didn't help solve the problem. So I sent the replacement back to them. This must be a router problem. Maybe I'll try a Netgear router instead of the Linksys.
