Is my x3i dead?
Is my x3i dead?

So my x3i is a week and a half old. Just got a kingston 256 SD in there about a week ago. Using it for all kinds of stuff.

Well anyways, tonight I'm using it while watching a movie. I'm watching tv and it starts to make a clicking or rattle noise and I soft reset it but it just turns off. I thought it was just that the battery was dead.

I tried plugging it in and it still won't turn on. The orange light turns on but it doesnt turn on. I've had it in the cradle for about two hours but still won't turn on.

Should I just try and get it replaced from Dell? Or should I wait till it charges more?

EDIT: finally found the 'edit' button

Sounds dead. I'd call Dell.

Wierd. So I left it in the cradle some more and started to play with it again and voila. I see the blue dell screen. It seemed to have hard resetted.

Once I get all my programs reinstalled I'll probably back this thing up twice a day for awhile . . .

I was going to ask also . . . if major drainage of the battery could have caused this? And maybe I accidently hard resetted it while playing with it?

EDIT: thanks for helping me find the edit button.

Kind of hard to hard-reset because you have to use the stylus in the little hole on the back of x31 while pressing the power button.

Just a thought but make sure your backup battery has completely been charged, common error takes longer to charge than the normal removable battery

I have something to try...(if u want to skip my story, go down a paragraph) this same thing happened to mine about 5 minutes ago. Earlier today PIE started screwing up on me, automatically scrolling by itself and not letting me click/tap on anything. Anyways, when I soft resetted it (JUST the button on the back, i DID NOT push the power button) It showed the Dell screen, and then it was as if it hard resetted itself, I was like WTF (excuse my language). It wasn't too huge of a deal then since I had a recent backup. Anyways, I was away for awhile (few hours) and when I came back I was surfing for a bit, and it froze again (not something new, even before all this happened). So I soft resetted it, and instead of showing the blue Dell screen, it went black. I know Dell support wasn't going to help, so I tried a few things, like charging the battery by itself in the back of the cradle. Didn't help.

Anyways, I held the soft reset button down along with the power button, as if I were going to do a hard reset. When it prompts to push the Contacts button, push the one that corresponds to cancel (E-mail button on mine) and it should pop-up with the Delll screen and all should be fine. I don't want to risk Soft Resetting it again at risk of something unfixable happening, so I don't know about permanent fixing.
