WiFi Connect - Sometimes Yes, Sometimes No
I have a brand new 3Xi and it connected immediately to my home WiFi - a Linksys G Router. I have been in WiFi bliss today!

However, sometimes it just will not connect. If I get a connection, it holds it with no problem. Then I try to connect an hour later and no dice. Wait 5 minutes, it connects.

What's up with this?

I have the new Dell update for ROM and the update from a week ago.

Thanks in advance!

A connection depends on a couple of things.
Location of your access point.
Is it located near an outside wall.
Is it located high up in the room.
Is it located near a large metal object, such as a file cabinet.
Do you have a wireless phone in use. (This is a problem with G.)

Distance from the access point.

I'm using an 182.11b router with a signal booster and can use my AX anywhere in the house.

My x3i can access the net from anywhere in my house. Then I try it from the same locations and it doesn't connect.

Then it does!
Frustrating!!

If I am using a wireless home network with other devices accessing the router, should I select "shared" or "open"?

Does it need a hard reset? I tried a soft reset.

Maybe someone can share all of the tips or settings to make wifi work??

Check the WiFi How-to linked from my signature. A few tips and settings in there.

I have exactky the same issue, and I have found that the following workaround resolves it, sort of. When you switch on the wireless, click on the green wifi indicator in the bottom right corner of the x3i's screen. This takes you ti the Dell Wlan Utility, select Edit Wireless Profiles which will show your wireless network as available. Click and hold on the available network and select connect in the popup menu. All in all, you should be connected to your network within about 5 to 10 seconds of switching on your wireless.

This is my second x3i and i have had to do this with both.

Thanks JamJar. We ARE in the same boat. I tried your idea and it worked on the second try. I've found that if I try to connect and fail, I can turn the X3i off and on again and it will usually connect.

All in all, we are doing the same thing - making multiple requests to connect. It should really connect each/every time. I will scour Ike's procedure link in the previous post 'cause I really think there is some small variable somewhere in these settings that occasionally cause failure to connect.

I'll report back, and thanks for your idea!

I just went through the same thing with several WAP54G Linksys APs and a WRT54G router. Upgrading the firmware solved my problems. You can find the firmware upgrade at http://www.linksys.com/download/firmware.asp?fwid=201
