Help with logging in , please.
Hi all,
I'm new in this forum and in the handheld world in general.
However I'm pretty good with computers and software and was nicely surprised when , ordering one of Dell's AXIM X3i for my wife's birthday, it worked flawlessly out of the box. In push of the button it found my network , went online and was able to open most of the websites we went to. Here comes the firs of my questions:
My wife's website is build over a Flash template by http://www.alamode.com . I specifically don't provide the site address , because I don't want you to consider this solicitation. For anyone interested to try the actual site with his Pocket PC , please send me a message , I'll send back the address.
Anyway , she was able to open it up and use it but she wasn’t able to log in to the admin section… She called tech support to find out if the site was optimized (I'm not sure if such thing exist , it was my guess and suggestion) for mobile products like Palms and handhelds and the tech (who also checked the site with his Palm)told her that it'll be fine if she just download Flash Player for PDA and M$ft's Active X controls. We found Flash , I downloaded it in the laptop and than we sinchronized it to the AXIM. It worked. The problem is that I can only find PowerToys for the Pocket PC
(http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobi...powertoys.mspx ) and even when I installed it didn't do the trick with logging in to the website… I'm hoping to get some help from you. Please let me know what exactly should I install to make it log in the admin section. Another site she have problem with logging in is the MLS site , but I don't have the exact address for you.
My other question is – since it is operating on wireless , can I sinc the device with the laptop trough the router and how (I just need brief explanation of the steps.)?
At home I'm using WiFi b standard via Linksys BEFW11S4
wireless gateway/router( http://www.linksys.com/products/prod...id=544&scid=35 ).
I also have a wireless Linksys USB adapter ( http://www.linksys.com/products/prod...id=36&prid=435 ) for one of my desktops , wireless Linksys "b" card ( http://www.linksys.com/products/prod...id=36&prid=542 ) for her Dell latitude and two other PCs with hard wires are connected to the Linksys. I only need connection between AXIM and the latitude so she can sinc the device when she set up the back up options and the rest of the needed on the regular bases automatic tasks. I do not need AXIM to be able to access another computers in the network.
I'm not using any encryptions for security , the router is wide open , the only difference with the out-of-the-box settings is that I changed the routers default password.
Again , I apologize for the long post , my only reason was to give you max info on the issue.
Any help with links or information will be greatly appreciated .
TAI ,100nikz.

I can see that no one have any opinion on the issue. Let me ask you something easier:
The web-sites I was trying to access sometimes are giving me message that my IE version is 4.something and they don’t support it. It must be above this version.
So , can somebody post a link to download of the newest version ? Does it exist for the OS Axim runs ? What exactly is the OS version of this model ? Is it the one I got on the disk from Dell - Pocket PC 2003 Premium w/Outlook 2002 ??? Why when I tried to open the disk it shows only the Acitve Sync .exe file ?Another question – did anyone ever tried this : http://www.cewindows.net/applications/regking2003.htm ??? It claims that it
“Makes Pocket IE pretend to be IE 6.0 - Should allow you to access secure websites like banking or brokerage houses. Right now most sites just check the browser's version and if it is less than 4.02 it does not allow you access. PIE by default reports IE 4.01 so you won't get access.
I would really appreciate any info in the issue.
TIA ,100nikz

The regking hack will help with some websites but I still find it impossible to log in to many financial sites. The version of PIE you have on Windows Mobile 2003 (your OS version) Axim is the most recent. AFAIK, they never release new versions apart from OS/ROM upgrades.

There are third party browser solutions that might work for you - NetFront (Payware) is one, Thunderhawk (which requires a subscription) is another.

As for syncing wirelessly (asked in your earlier post), you can do it. Check the WiFi How-to linked from my signature for the details.

I'm afraid I don't have answers to your other problems.

Thanks ,that’s plenty.
I was able to install Flash for PPC and also Active X – they are coming with Flash. I installed also some “Internet Tools for Pocket PC ” from M$oft but I didn’t see any difference in browsing or anywhere to go into settings and change whatever I need.
Question:
Another site (I’ll post the link later – I don’t have it right now) gives you a command lines to run and change the settings in registry… Well how you go to LOCAL_MACHINE … in Pocket PC ????
I tried to go from the laptop , but there is no way to run regedit or similar command …
Any input on this ? Also which version of RegKing should go for Axim ??? Most of them are for Arm processor , not for the one in the Ax…
Thanks for the link.Somehow I missed it when I was searching this forum…
Great stuff , great explanation. Will try it and if I got questions will bother again
Thaks for the help again!

You can use ARM apps on the XScale. XScale first choice, ARM Second choice.

There is no built in registry editor but I believe there is (or was) a free one by PHM... Check http://www.handango or search for "PHM registry" and you might find it

when you are on the regking web site you want the one that says:

Or RegKing2003 for Pocket PC 2003 devices...

I have a Pocket PC 2003 device (iPaq 194x, 221x, 555x, Viewsonic V37, etc.)

Thank you both , I did figured this out and I downloaded the same file you're recommended , but I had trouble installing it in the Ax… Is it any way to start the installation with Ax (Pocket PC) type apps … ? I decompressed the file in the folder on the laptop , dedicated to the sync , assuming that starting it , it'll recognize the location and will pick up with the installation from there… The problem is , the Ax gave me an err message that it isn't "a valid application" … Any idea ???
