New X3i, Wifi Troubles
Hi

I recieved a new X3i today from Dell, I set it all up and got it running on my Wireless network in my home without any problems.

Later I turned the unit off and after turning it back on wireless simply doesn't work anymore. The device can see available networks, but if I attempt to connect to one from the "Wireless Ethernet" option it says "connecting" but doesn't actually connect.

The Dell WLan Utility also shows that it is attempting to connect, the state window displays "Associating - Default-SSID" but this message never changes.

I use WEP, but I've tried changing keys, I've tried turning off encryption alltogether, and I've tried different SSID names and different channels.

What I don't understand is why this worked fine when I first got it up and running, but now it refuses to work!

I noticed many other people on this forum are having similar problems with their X3is and WiFi, but haven't seen any solutions - I'll be calling Dell tomorrow and if they can't give me a fix for it I'll be after a refund, I bought this device primarily because of its WiFi capability!

Can anyone give me any more tips on how to get this working, or should I just give up and return the device?

Try this patch and see if your Ax will accept it. If it is not yet on your device, that may fix your problem.

I feel your pain oli.

When you initially connected, you connected once, right? If you tried it a bunch of times initially, you may have found that it connects sporatically. I have the patch mentioned above, and it's still sporatic.

I find that I am connecting 75% of the time on the first two attempts. I too bought the X3i for the WiFi, but I am hesitant to return it just yet. I trust that Dell will release a new version of the ROM that will make connection more reliable.

Try it repeatedly if it does not connect first time. Report back.

Try comnecting manually by going to site survey---profiles---tap and hold on your network name---tap connect in drop down menu

May take a couple attempts of pressing connect to get it to connect.

Hey lkochis - finish that thought!

Hey HighTymes - I know that retrying works for you right away, but for some of us, it might be 5 - 10 tries. Not fun.

Again, I hope that Dell knows about this issue and is working it.

Nancy, my PDA didn't accept it.

Newton: It connected fine the first time, never again after that though...

HighTymes, I had allready tried that - it simply refused to connect anymore.

I did a hard reset (wasted all that time yesterday getting it working) and now it seems to be able to connect fine, even after soft resets and turning the device off it works! I can't believe it.... I just hope I don't have the same problem again later.

oli, what's your rom version? if your'e using A01 you shoudln't have too many problems. i have an x3i with the A01 rom, no other patches installed, and i connect 99% of the time to my home router (linksys wifi B router). a few times i've had it not connect (just keeps searching) but disabling and reenabling the wifi fixes that.

When it says connecting but can't connect, change nothing, do a soft reset and then try connecting. DO NOT turn the WLAN radio off ever.

Thanks I found it and I have the latest. I am having some difficulty as well connecting. Once I connect I stay connected until I either turn of the wireless or disable it. Then it will not reconnect without repeated tries. I did not have this problem on my home network with my Ipaq 4155. It connected every time so this is somewhat of a disappointment.
