Battery Problems
i love my x3i and all, but this battery is not very good at all... i am wondering if this is normal:
i use pocketNES to emulate NES games. the battery is fully charged when i begin and after a few minuttes of use, the main battery is at about 99% still, but the backup battery is at 80%!! is this normal?
also, when i go to the power settings on the x3i it doesnt show the charge of the backup battery like it did on my x5..does it do this on everyones??

It is VERY NORMAL. There is no way to accurately determan the backup battery life, which is why it only says Normal or low as a standard(3rd party apps only show a reading). Your backup battery will still last upto 30 minutes even if you are at 100-80% on reading. It won't go any lower then 80% unless it is being used.

I am having the same problems as andybrown. My question is about the main battery. It seems to go down a lot faster than the AX5. I have the WIFI disabled and the IR. Is it norm. to loose power so quick? Down to 80% in about 10min, just running simple apps?

Well the X3i has a much smaller battery then the X5. Right there you will lose power faster. If you are running at 400Mhz then it will fall even faster. For some reason even when the X3i says it is fully charged with the green light, it really isn't. Unplug it and plug it back in and let it charge somemore until it goes green again. This will help keep the 100-70% battery range last longer.

I get 3 hours of battery surfing the net continuously with wifi battery saver on and running at 200mhz.

Is it normal for the backup battery to lose charge?

I have three spare batteries that I regularly put on rotation with Axim, so my Axim is always have full charged battery, so in theory my backup shouldnt' lose any charge, right?

Well, somehow Resco "system info" util, shows it loosing some charge... Is that normal? It's goes from 90% to 60% very quickly.

My batteries also drain very quick, but I think it's because I have my proc to the max. And I also use a lot of wyfy, so I'm not worried about that, only my backup battery I'm a bit confuse.

Although, the WM2003 just shows it as "normal"

w00t!

Every time you change your main battery, the Axim switches to the BUB until you get the main back on.

Just curious as to why you "regularly" switch main batts? If it's not low, no need to switch, just keep it in the cradle as often as possible when you aren't using the Axim. And don't purposely drain a LiIon Battery, that will shorten it's life.

Here's some LiIon Battery Information:

All Consumer LiIon batteries (other than coin-type) have circuitry in the battery itself, to prevent overcharging under any circumstances.

LiIon batteries are actually quite dangerous commodities and the only way they were allowed into the Consumer market was to include this circuitry.

Quote:
From First Link:
The charge cannot be terminated on a voltage (Which is what the Axim's green light is indicating). The capacity reached at 4.2 Volts per cell is only 40 to 70% of full capacity. For this reason you need to continue to charge until the current drops, and to terminate on the low current. (Which is what the Battery's Sensing Circuitry is sensing, and then doing).

It is important to note that trickle charging is not acceptable for lithium batteries. The Li-ion chemistry cannot accept an overcharge without causing damage to the cell, possibly plating out lithium metal and becoming hazardous.

Ooops, sorry. I should've been more clear about rotating my batteries. Anyway, since I have spare batteries, I try to used it. But NO, I don't rotate just because. When I reached about 45%-40%, I'll swap it, but not when it's 50%, 80%, etc.

And it'll probably take me about 2-3 seconds to change the battery, so at that time, BUB looses that much charge?

Hey, what does "trickle charge" means?

Thanks!

Actually, for some reason my x3i is being weird as well in regards to the backup battery. Without ever removing the main battery, suddenly it'll show the backup as "low" and give me a warning...then a few minutes later, it's fine.

Weird :|

As i said earlier about the backup battery. It doesn't have a accurate sensor which is why dell doesn't have a % reading but more like a normal/low thing. Just because your 3rd party bacup battery reads it is at 80% means jack, it is not reading it right. You are still getting 30 minutes backup at 80% backup battery because the battery is still fully charged.

The program is just misreading the sensor. No need to worry abotu it.

No no...it's not the 3rd-party battery sensor that's reading the backup as low...it's the actual WM2003 screen that andybrown posted above that has the backup battery as "low" sometimes.

Different to the X5 because the X5 had a non-rechargable backup battery whereas the X3s is rechargable.
