Headphone jack problems?
Hi. I just got a an Axim X5 advanced for Christmas and have started using it within the past month for playing mp3s. I've got no real complaints up to this point, and the only third party software that I have installed are Socket Bluetooth drivers and associated software for the CF card I just got. I use the Pocket Windows Media Player for playback.
Not long after installing the Soacket card and software, however, I am suddenly running into an issue where the headphones suddenly lose the audio in one of the ears intermittently and without warning. Reseating the plug into the jack solves the problem only for a short period, and what's worse is that I've had this happen with plugging in two different sets of headphones (both Radio Shack) and even with the sound cable to the desktop speakers.
Oddly enough, it doesn't happen with the Panasonic headphones I have, although those are the headband kind and not the earbud kind and therefore unsuitable for use while walking around.
The jack doesn't feel loose, twisting the plug doesn't give me static, and I've cleaned in and around the jack of and possible grit or particles. Still, it keeps happening.
Even stranger, when I remove the headphones, I occasionally lose audio in the EXTERNAL speaker as well.
WTF?
Is it a software issue with Socket? Is it the headphones themselves? Does anyone here consider himself a headphone expert? I know there are subtle differences in the manufacturing process for 3.55 mm audio plugs, so any advice on what kind of long-cord, earbud or wraparound headphones to purchase would be great.
I only found one thread on the forums that covered an issue similar to mine, and there wasn't that much hard info on it.
Thanks.
