Scissors + Axim Screen = !!!!!!
Hi all,

A "friend" has a problem with his Axim X3. His wife was playing Jawbreaker and somehow some scissors were dropped on the screen !

The gel is scratched but the glass underneath appears fine. The problem is 2 horizontal gray lines beneath where the scissors marked the screen. Lines are about 20-40 pixels in length about 10 pixels apart.

Do you think he needs a replacement screen? If so anyone know where we can get them in the UK?

Cheers,

T

____________

In the graphic above, the two horizontal black lines are flexible plastic layers with the gel in between. I suspect the scissors permanently "dimpled" the top layer such that it is reading some sort of a "permanent" contact point.

You can gently "massage" the screen with your thumbs from the outer edge towards the dimple, to try redistributing the gel back between the layers in this area. I have my doubts this will work, though.

I haven't seen replacement digitizers for the X3s, only the X5s......and they are not the same digitizers.

Nope, not worked. I think it's killed the pixels like in a flat panel.

Ah!! May have to claim on the insurance as it'll cost a fortune to get this shipped to the UK (+ customs tax charge).

Not sure, have to check with my colleague.

May not have to. We did some massaging over lunchtime and one of the lines seems to have reduced in size!

Hope the massaging works out for you.

If not, have you tried contacting Dell to see what it would cost to have them repair it?

The massaging worked and it's almost all gone. Shame about the small cut in the screen but he can cope with that.

Glad I've got the screen protector on mine.

Thanks all,

If he puts a quality screen protector on his Axim now, he will notice the nick less.

But keep in mind that, owing to the "permanence" of the dimple, he may need to become a masseuse.
