So I got iced tea on my axim...
...and now it wont turn on. I opened up the case to let it dry out, but in the FAQ for axim care, it says you should rinse the case w/ distilled water. Does this mean that you should wash the electronic components (after the batt. is removed, of course). The iced tea was only a few drops, and it took the 1 in 100 chance of dripping down, sliding along the underside of the computer table, and dripping RIGHT ON the SD card slot and into my axim. It was in the cradle, though, when the water went on it, so hopefully that didn't mess it up. But what should i do w/ washing it out?

I wouldn't use water. I would use alcool.

Wash it, rinse it and then it should come back to life.
Contact me if it doesn't; I'm looking for parts.

Nico

I had my Axim on the table here at work, knocked over a small cup of latte, and it got on the bottom of the Axim.
I didn't turn it on right away, but wiped it off. It was on the edge of where the battery slides in, and seemed to go up it a little.
I wiped it off, and let it sit for a while.
It worked just fine afterwards. I guess the latte really didn't go up into the Axim, just got the bottom wet.

No, isopropanol (IPA - basically pure chemical alcohol) is used in circuit board assembly and production to clean stuff down, it shouldn't damage anything...

(that said, anything you do is at your own risk )

If you're willing to go to this extreme to flush out any residue, you should just go ahead and remove the screen entirely (taking GREAT CARE with the release mechanisms for the ribbon cables....they are delicate!).

You DO NOT want to risk getting ANY liquid between the layers....no matter HOW volatile (ie; evaporative) they may be!!! It is extremely time consuming trying to get liquids to evaporate from constrained spaces.

Yeah...about that screen...i sorta went ahead and did it before that warning was posted, and I got alcohol between the screen layers. Now the screen is discolored when looked at from the side (but not really from the front) and the touch screen capability is destroyed (i think). I must have let the alcohol sit in between the layers too long waiting for it to possibly evaporate/drain out or something. Lucky me... So looks like I might be paying a bit for a new screen. Anyone know anywhere I could get one for a semi-resonable price?

They are availible @ the site below for $140, and these are brand new.

http://www.pdasmart.com/aximpartscenter.htm

I wonder why you had to drink ice tea above your PDA? What did you do more? Eat above it like your daily soup?

Don't you think its rather stupid to drink or eat above your PDA, or have it nearby something liquid?

You probely didn't realize enough that liquid is the number *one* enemy of electronic equipment. I hope you do realize it now?

I have no solution other then throw away the PDA, buy a new one and watch it the next time!

Ok I know the above is hard, but YOU did it yourself, right?

Peace,
Henk.
