X3i hard reset it self
I know ive read a few posts here and there about people who've had there Axim's hard reset on there own. My x3i wasn't used for a few days, I turned it on, everything was normal and fine. Battery wasn't low either. I get home, drop it in the cradle. Active sync gets upset that it cant connect to outlook (beacause I'm now at home, not college, therefore it cant find the mail server). Anyway, It eventually gave up trying to connect to outlook and just sat in the cradle. I tried to check a date while in the cradle and the unit was extremely slow. As usual when its being slow for me, I just picked it up and hit the soft reset. This is where it all went wrong. The unit just hung on the blue dell screen for alot longer then I expected, and when it finally came on, it had hard reset. No screen about if you want to hard reset push this button. I hadn't been touching any buttons. Battery was full too. Any explanations? I'm using a funky Rom image, the one that was on dells site then pulled shortly after. This image seems to have excellent preformance.

Any ideas?

There are alot of factors that come into play here. Please describe in more detail how you receive your school email, both on your PC and your Axim.

OK, I mean how are you guys syncing your email? Do you sync your Axims directly to a mail server, or does it sync with mail that's delivererd to your local machines (pst file, local folders, etc)?

it's an exchange server. It's not directly connecting to the server. But i dont see why it would matter.

It might, in you're original post, you said it gets upset that it can't find the college exchange server. Why is it looking for the exchange server? Mine doesn't look for the exchange server when I'm @ home, and it syncs just fine.

I have 2 reccomendations:

1. Upgrade your ActiveSync software to the latest version of 3.7.1
2. Make sure all your schedule settings within ActiveSync on your PC are set to manual. This resolved some of the exchange issues that I originally had

Also, decide whether you really need to sync your email. Not saying you don't, I just had less hassle once I unchecked Inbox in ActiveSync.

This still shouldn't hard reset your device, but something strange is going on here.

I've actually had mine hard reset out of the blue once as well.

Well, I went to do a soft reset, the front power button was not touched at all, no confirmation...just a hard reset.

That's why backup is soooo important.

Yes, ive had no problems w/ it syncing at home away from the college's exchange server but that never caused a hard reset. Oh well...

Axim X5 has hard-reseted itself as well!!
The warranty on the device has just expired and my device which worked perfect up to now has decidided to hard-reset itself!!

I am now faced with the "align screen" dialog and can't get out of it!!
They ask you to "tap the target firmly and accuratly at each location on the screen".

The thing is that the target only wants to know about 5 spots on the screen and that it takes forever!! I am still doing it right know!!

I am getting quite frustrated.

Any help would be welcome.

Cheers.

It seems to have passed the align stage!
I used a pencil to try to mark where the target went in order to be "accurate" and bang! The align screen went and i was able to continue the setup!

It works now.

Same thing happened to me... My Axim was acting sluggish... Program memory was superful (lots of programs do NOT release their memory even when you exit!)... so... I did a soft reset... I'd done one before and it sped things up considerably.

Next thing I know, I've done a hard reset without realizing it.. Fortunately, I hadn't had my Axim too long, and most of the files were backed up... was just a matter of reinstalling a few programs for work, and re-activating Microsoft Reader...

The one thing that didn't work out so well, though, was that ActiveSync refused to accept a partnership with the same name as the old partnership... because Activesync saw it as a different Axim... Just a matter of making a new partnership, and all my appointments came right back off of Outlook..

In the meantime, I have a utility that will perform a soft reset without having to push the reset button on the back. (it's a side feature of a Today plugin called PowerCheck.

Oh... and um... regular backups are a must!
