bent tines
At work, I have the cradle where I recharge and sync, and then at home - I have the travel kit where I plug in each night ... the problem with the travel kit, at least for me, is that it isn't "guided" perfectly into the slot ....

So last night I bent some tines (the little copper things) -- the x3i is less than 3 months old .. I didn't get the extended warranty -- but it comes with 1 year replacement, correct?

Is this situation one that would be covered by that?

Also - is it possible to sync to 2 computers? Basically, at work, I want to sync everything in general ... but I want to use pocket quicken as well - and quicken is on my home computer ... so I think I would need to sync at work like normal - and then somehow do a partial link at home .... does that work?

Thanks!

Yes should be covered under reg warranty. If they don't replace the damaged part, ask for a supervisor.

Yes it is possible to sync to 2 PCs with ActiveSync. I dunno for sure with pocket Quicken, never use it. I think you may check the HELp in it. That should be in there somewhere I am guessing.

They don't replace anything except the whole device, and after 30 days, you'll get a refurb.

Why would it be covered by warranty? If you crash your car does the warranty repair it?

Most warranty does NOT cover accidental damage.

Give it a shot though.

Most everyone that has had that problem, has had there unit replaced. I think Dell is aware of the problem.

Is there anything, aside from being careful, that can be done to avoid this situation? It seems like the travel charger is what did it for me ....

I may reduce my usage of it to actual travel ... and just charge up at work ...

thanks again though for the advice

It seems like all the trqvel chargers and USB chargers are hard to take out and put in. I bought an after market one, and it never wants to come straight out.

broken tines
Yes, some of my pins were broken too. It all started when i was trying to plug my travel sync cable into my x3 (i got a refurbished x3 for $129 and it didn't come with the cradle) and then it wouldn't go in. I looked at it and found that the plastic tab used to hold the tines in place had bent down. I easily fixed this problem with a small sewing pin by pushing it back up. After doing this repeatedly the black plastic thing finally broke off. I was still able to sync it but after a while the pins got bent and a couple of them broke off. I can still charge it but it is a pain and the neck not to be able to install any more problems. I need to find a good time to send it back to dell because i am really attached to my axim. I haven't synced in almost a month.

Same story with my X3.

Dell doesn't cover this under reg warranty, that is what I'm told.
I can buy a new one or get this one repaired. Repairing it is the same as replacing the main board, which is as expensive as a new one.

So, I'm looking for a source to buy 50 connectors from.
You need to replace them more often then the batteries.
If one knows where I can buy spare connectors, please let me know.

Waiting for a supplier popping up on internet selling spare connectors, so I can replace them as a service to X3 users.
I just can't buy spare connectors for these PDA's anywhere now.
Probably going to be a lonnnnnnnnnng wait.

And even then, you'd have to be a robot to replace a bottom connector. There's like 50 different solder connections, many of them, literally, less than a hair's width apart.

There's a reason PDAs aren't generally considered Repairable............it's just not cost effective (or even possible) for some repairs.

I think some pocket pc's have almost the exact same connector. Last night i was playing around with my broken Toshiba e310 and i found that the dell travel sync cable fits right into the toshiba sync socket. and connects. I charged it through the dell connector. makes me wonder who copied the idea off of the other....

.
.

Just pre-made/stock parts.

Doesn't change the difficulty level of trying to replace one.

Like to play with fire, do ya?

Just because it fits doesn't mean the pinouts are the same!

Do believe you should consider yourself very lucky!!!!!

Well my toshiba was broken, and i can't do anything with it except turn it on, and turn it off and charge it so if the toshiba burned out it wouldn't be the end of the world.
