this is strange i have 100MB free on my Lexar 256 Mb SD card. Copying an 25 MB file results in a "disk full" message.

I am copying with a multicard reader.

oh forgot to mention: checkdisk does not show up anything wrong and a format of the card did not help.

Try to scan the disk for errors and defragment. Here's how to do it for FREE without the need for any added PPC software:

1. Plug card reader into your PC
2. Insert the 256 MB SD card in question
3. On your PC click Start > Programs > Accessiories > System Tools > ScanDisk
4. A list of available diskc/drives will appear.
5. Select your Card Reader/SD card from the list
6. Choose a "Thorough Scan" and let the scan run and automatically fix any errors

Next Defragment your SD card:
1. With your Card Reader and SD card still connected to your PC, on your PC click Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Defragment
2. Select your SD card from the list of drives/disks to defragment
3. Let the defragment program run

Now Check you SD card to see if there are any corrupt files just sitting around taking up space or dead files and just delete them. This should free up a bunch of space and keep your card from reporting incorrect disk space.

Best of luck!

it did not formatting and defragmenting does not help. I cannot copy a big file to the SD card. Seems as if there is no free space in one piece available and defrag cant free it up.

btw defrag is far too fast for my feelings.

any other idea ?

Try using StorageTools or Pocket Mechanic.

Format the card using the following settigs:

File System: FAT16
Cluster size: 4KB
Uncheck the "Backup FAT" option

Either one shold do the trick, and the removal of the FAT Backups is key. That's strange, because I have a 256 MB card and formatted it with both Pocket Mechanic and Storage Tools, it worked fine with both.

You mean it won't even format the card? I would give Storage Tools a go and see what happens, use the same settings . . .

hmm i should have tried earlier. The same happened with storage tools.

but the file i was trying to copy was an mp3 file. now i still do not understand why a 38MB mp3 file would not copy but its that way.

several 8 MB files are copied without problem dispassing the limit i had thought i am having.

so can you maybe explain why i canot copy this mp3 file ?

I use the quick format, and even if you don't choose it, the format is very quick.

Are you using an SD card reader to transfer the files? If not, definitely get one. I've not run into one file transfer error using my SD card reader, main reason being you are bypassing ActiveSync completely. You can get them for around $10 @ any OfficeMax or other office store . . .

thank you for trying to help Wooch btw

yes thats what is strange. the card reader is supposed to work like a drive. So how can a file be damaged so that i cant copy it to SD but copy it around my drives on the PC ?

i allready plugged to a single usb port directly to the PC.
