x3i - bad wlan range., no warranty... UPDATED
I recently traded my zaurus sl-5600 for a axim x3i and am not regretting it

My only problem that I am having is explained in this post by another member:
http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showt...strength+x 3i

In short: My wireless range is less than 30 feet. I prety much have to stay in the same room as my AP to keep a signal.

There are 98 days left on the warranty, which we have not gone through the trouble of transfering yet.

What is the normal range for the 3xi? Is this something that should be covered under warranty?

Obviously the range was not a big deal for the previous owner, but I need more than 30 feet.

EDIT: I called dell this morning and the nice english speaking lady, and she really was nice, informed me that my warranty has expired. Scroll down a couple posts to find out what I did.

i can get great range outside my apartment building and across a common area.

could be that something is interfering with your signal. are you connecting to a router? if so, what channel do you have it set to? do you have a cordless phone? the 900mhz phones tend to interfere with wireless signals if too close.

I also have read elsewhere on the site that the PowerSave feature (I think the one in WLAN, not for the PPC itself) greatly effects range if it is enabled.

Ok, so I called Dell and found out that my warranty has expired

This gave me an excuse to take my Axim apart. I connected a short wire (about 6 inches) that I pulled out of an old phone cord and spliced it with the built in wireless antenna. Then I wrapped the wire around the guts of the axim and put her back together.

My range has more than tripled! I can go outside, 75 feet away from my router and still have a signal (2 yellow bars).

Any ideas on what else I can to to my ghetto'd wifi to pick up an extra 25+ feet?

My router is located in the center of my one story house, in the kitchen.

Router location is not a problem here. I've had my laptop and my sharp zaurii connected at my mailbox 125+ feet away.
