x3 BAD wireless range HELP!?!?!
I currently own a dell axim x3 without built in wifi. I own a wireless card from Socketcom.com and it worked great. I login to my school's wireless network and I used to be able to login, now I can't. It says it is available, and requires no password. My friend who sits 2 feet away from me in class owns an iPaq ($500 dollar one) with wifi and bluetooth built in, and he can connect to the internet fine. What's the problem? I've tried taking off the battery save feature, doesn't help.. and also soft resetting it. doesnt help either. The wifi card I own is supposed to have a 700 foot / 240 outdoor/indoor range.

Thanks in advance...

I'm not well versed in SD WiFi cards, but what you can do is switch seats with your friend.

Ok, ok. Seriously, outside of kicking him out of the Magic WiFi Chair, you should shut down your Axim, take out the WiFi card and soft reset the Axim. Put the WiFi card back in and the Axim should turn itself back on. Check signal strength now. If you're still getting a weak signal then you either need to move, get a better WiFi card or update any drivers, if there are drivers. Good luck.

yeah, i tried that. the problem is not (kind of) the signal strength. It's getting any signal at all. And i've already tried to do that. Anything else please? I should check to see if there is any driver updates on the socketcom webpage though. hmmmm

^^^ You might have a defective WIFI card. You might want to look into return/exchange options.

Do you have a library near you? Most metropolitan and campus librabries offer free WIFI. You might want to look into that just to see if it's really a problem with the WIFI card or the AP you're trying to connect to.

Also, turn it on just to see if one of your neighbhors has a WIFI network set up just to test it and se if your WIFI card and detect and/or connect to any WIFI signals while you wait to hear back from Socket.

I live in a small town, so that's out of the question. None of my neighbors have it, already checked. Kind of sucks. Hey, I'll post the Socketcom's tech support reply on this post if somebody wants?
