Top half of screen is gone
I just took out my X30 out of my bag and the top half of the screen no longer displays, the bottom half is fine. When I turn it off I see a black streak on the right side that runs from the top to middle of the screen. I tried a hard reset but that did not solve anything. There are no indentations in the screen or any marks of any kind. Any advice before contact Dell tonight would be greatly appreciated.

Just tell them the problem and when it started. They may conclude that you bang the unit screen for this to happen.

Is there any damage to the screen or case? IMO, Dell should take care of it if you've got the complete care warranty.

Any verdict here? Have you call Dell? What was the response from them?

Just curious!

I contacted DELL support yesterday and I just received an email from them that they were shipping me a replacement unit under the Complete Care Warranty. I've had many PDAs, my first one was a US Robotics Pilot 5000 and this is the first time I've ever had problems with one, so I'm actually really happy with DELL's customer service and quick resolution, hopefully they will have a replacement in stock and I will be back to normal within the next couple of days. Right now I'm back to using my old ZIRE 71.

Here are some images I sent them of the device:

LCD turned on

Back of Device (no scratch)

Top angled view of screen (no scratch)

My guess is that something in my bag must have shifted and applied some serious pressure to the back of the Axim, which was in it's case. The plastic used for the back of this thing is fairly flimsy and flexible and could really use a metal or harder polymer shell.

Anyways, thanks all for the advice, looks like I'm on my way to getting this solved.

to DELL Support (so far )

Did Dell say when your replacement would arrive? I'm just curious...

3-5 days depending on availability... hopefully this won't translate into 1 month due to lack of availability which is about how long it took them to ship the original device back in August.

I believe the Complete Care was $20 extra for one year coverage, which is about how long it takes me to upgrade to a new device. I've never had to use these warranties before, but I'm certainly glad I have it right now, I don't think the wife would be too happy with a 4 month upgrade cycle.

I just got my replacement unit from DELL. I'm very impressed with how fast they got it to me. I would have had it yesterday morning if I had been home to sign for it.

The replacement device came in without a battery or stylus, no problem I can use my existing one. I don't know if this is a refurbished item or not, I can't see a scratch on the case or screen, so if it is refurbished they did a really nice job. It even came with the latest A05 ROM, so I don't need to reinstall it.

This was the first time I've had to use DELL support and I'm very impressed and extremely happy with my choice of PDA.
