If your Regional Settings are not what they were, either on your pc or ppc, the pc will not recognise the device and try to establish either a new partnership or a guest partnership. That's why I thought it may be the cause.

, I read your suggestion of restoring the backup and thought it was a wrong post. Its a new PPC so i don't have any backups.
I did try changing the regional settings to different locations and trying the sync and still have the same issue. Seems with a hard rest the regional settings get set to default.

. Without sync capabilites the axim or any PDA is as good as a doorstop
