Axim X3i Stuck on Blue Screen
Help!

I was wondering if there is anything else I can do? I have an Axim X3i which after a Hard Reset stays on the Blue Screen with the Dell Logo - no matter what I do (remove battery, put in cradle, remove SD Card, soft reset, hard reset) nothing seems to work.

This is the second Axim X3i, the first was replaced by Dell last year with similar problems. It is now outside the Dell replacement warranty period, I have rung Tech Support at Dell and they cant replace (I purchased the original over a year ago).

What do I do? Throw it away and start again?

Thanks

When you say "remove battery", did you just pop it out and pop it back in? You should try to pop it out, wait for 1 hr for the backup battery to completely drain as well. Then put it back on a/c power (to recharge) and try to start it up again. Hope this helps...

I was just about to post the exact same thing about my axim X3 too. Having the same problem. I left the two batterys out for about 12-15hrs and tried I dont know how many hard and soft resets. My warranty is up by 3 months. very annoying!

Also when I take out the main battery and put the axim in the cradle the light comes on to charge the backup battery but then suddenly turns off ?

Looks like an internal problem

Exact same problem here too. When I put the x3i in the cradle it said that the device could not be connected through active sync. I was planning on taking everything off anyway, so I did a hard reset...bad move. Now it says a memory error has been detected when I put the battery back in. If I press [contacts] to correct the error it gets stuck on the dell screen, if I do another hard reset it gets stuck in the same place. I called tech support and they couldn't do anything, except suggest I get a new one or pay $200 for a refurb.

oh yeah ... I disconnected the battery and let it sit overnight. This didn't do anything.

Sounds just like Windoze and the "Blue Screen of Death".

Doesn't look promising at all.
Ive left the battery out for a couple of days - no difference, just the same old blue Dell screen on everything I do. No option of repair from Dell, no replacement as it is past the (very short) 1 year warranty - nothing to do, but to throw it out (and my money) and start again with another one (non Dell)!

Have you checked to see of Pocket PC Techs can straighten it out? Their link is at the top right corner of this site.

I hope you didn't toss your device yet, a rom update may fix your ills...it fixed mine. check out the thread "Flash ROM from SD card"

Thanks for that, I have tried a number of times to get the ROM update to work off the SD card following the instrcutions on the keys to press (Contacts + Scroll/Enter) when resetting. I still get the same Blue Dell screen coming up every time, doesnt try and boot or load from the SD card?? Is there something I am doing wrong?

if you do it without the sd card in do you get the diagnostic screen? I tried it a couple times and it didn't work, but then I realized that I was doing it slightly wrong. First of all, be absolutely certain that you have the correct rom image on the sd card and that it is the only one. If you don't you run the risk of causing irreparable damage (remember: I'm not responsible for any damages, I'm just telling you what I did)

the trick is:
1. hold down all 4 buttons (reset, on/off, scroll enter, and contacts)
2. count to 5
3. let go of the on/off button and the reset button and keep holding on to the scroll enter and the contacts.

the device will make a wierd beep then the screen will turn white and text will show up while it is booting. When I didn't put in the sd card, it asked me to press a button to either do the diagnostic or another button to skip it. I tried out the buttons without the sd card several times before doing the actual rom replacement and did the diagnostic just to make sure that I had the buttons down.

When I put in the sd card and did the magic combo, the device detected it and started to read the image. It took a few minutes to read the image then delete the existing rom and boot up. I was sure to leave it alone during this time until it started up. Then all was good.

same exact problem!!! I posted about 5 minutes ago about it cuz i didnt see this thread yet! Ive been through 3 pocket pc's and 2 batteries, now Im going for my 4th axim just as Im about to email them now!!! whats up!?!? Is everyone having the same problem at the same time too? Could it be something with the date? My dads axim aint havin the problem though. Ive thought, could it be the charger?? Seems to be some type of a memory issue but im not sure. Its pissin me off cuz i just dont know what to do. I want to talk to someone over the fone about it but forget that idea, unless i speak indian language. Email is the only way and if all they can do is keep on sending me defected axims, whats the point? Is there a limit on how many they can send me btw? I hope not cuz I might clear out their inventory. Glad im not the only one goin through this right now...
