Screen / Backup problem
I turned on my Axim (X3) today to find that the screen was blank (white) except for a small line about 3/4 of the way down the screen (I would take a screen cap, but I can't! ) connected with a big blob. I "want" to do a hard reset, but as far as I can tell, there is no way to do a back up, unless I could somehow blindly launch that Remote Control Display thing from Microsoft. as far as I can tell the screen is messed up (and it's not a program error). The only thing which suggests the slightest possibility taht it could be a program error that just won't go away is that the thin line is located almost exactly in the spot where the progress bar is in RealPlayer, which is the last application I had open before this happened.

Things I've already tried are the following....
1. Removing the battery and putting it back in
2. Resetting the system.

Will I need to send it back?

Does it still sync? If so, you can do a backup via ActiveSync.

To further complicate things, it didn't sync (automatically, or I wonder if @ all) in the state it was yesterday (i.e., perfect) I always used my wireless card to sync and even then I had it set to sync manually (I was having problems with outlook and they seemed to go away after I did this).

If you were able to sync manually then try doing a backup that way then.

therein lie the crux. I can't do it b/c I can't see anything. futhermore everything stopped responding (the big one being the netcard, which I used for syncing) and I talked to a dell rep who said he was gonna send me a new one.

on that same note, it sounds rather odd that they would replace my axim no questions asked. my axim is all dinged up + stuff, not that that was the cause, because it wasn't being used between the time between the time when it was working and the time when it stopped working. so I'm getting a brand spanking new one just because the screen doesn't work? I guess it must cost more to repair that replace?

Dell never repairs, only replaces if it's still under warranty.

Actually, you don't need to see anything to do a backup via ActiveSync since it's all done on the PC side. As long as you can connect, you can do one. Anyway, glad you're getting things sorted out.

BTW, welcome to Aximsite!

for some reason, whenever I plugged in my cradle, it never synced.

For some reason, under quick links, I "edit[ed] my PDA" and it doesn't show up in my profile, but keeps the values in the "edit myPDA" page. does it show that for you?
