Might of figured something out with internet connection problems with WRT54G
I was having a har time connecting to A WRT54G @ work. I have been trying to get this to work for a week. I was playing with the settings. I checked Automatically connect to non-prefered networks in configure wireless networks on my X3i; and low and behold it connected and has maintained the connection for over three hours now. I need someone to try this to see if it works for them. please post results.

I was able to repeat my results. when I uncheck this setting it will not connect. When I reselect it it will connect.

I've had that router for a while now and have never had a problem connecting to it with my X3i.

I have not been able to connect to it With the X3i. With wep and in mixed mode (both B & G mode) By checking the above mentioned setting I have been able to connect at home and at work with wep enabled. I can easily conect with network open no wep. Are you using wep.

Yes i use WEP as well as MAC address filtering in a mixed mode environment. also there are several other AP's close by and it allways defaults to mine.

tecnoguy, you were probably just doing something wrong. Did you ever try to tap and hold on the ssid, you were trying to connect to,(in dell wlan utility) and click connect? The option you just checked, to non prefered networks, shouldn't of have anything to do with you being able to connect to a router.

Ok I went through the ordeal all over again. Yes I can get it to connect to My WRT54G with wep, but in B only mode. It will not work with wep. It will consistently connect with my above mentioned setting in mixed mode. I will continue to use my Befw11s4 at home and use the above mentioned settings to connect at work when I need to.

Did you update the routers firmware? latest version is 3.03.6

Try updating it to that. also consider that it may not be the axe that's the problem but the router may be defective.

I have that same router and have no problems with it. I am running MAC filtering with WPA encrytion. (I did upgrade the firmware previously to help with a VPN server issue I was having).

Ok it did turn out to be a setting in the WRT54G. I changed each setting one by one and finally figured out what it was. It was the Basic rate setting (this setting is in the advanced wireless settings). Origionaly I had it set to all; then I changed it to default and now all is well. I even have WEP enabled and it is in mixed mode. So I humbly state that I was wrong and you guys that stated it was a setting were right all the long.
