Replacing connector pins
Has anyone ever replaced connector pins from one Ax to another?
I have two dead Axims one with a cracked screen & one with bent pins. Is it possible to make one working unit by replacing the connector pins in that unit with the good ones from the other unit?

Anyone ever try this before?

Both out of warranty.

Thanks

What model Axim? I'm looking at the inside of my X50v and the connector on the bottom is soldered onto the motherboard, not something I'd like to tackle. I think it would be easier to swap the LCD/digitizer assembly from one to the other.

Its an X3. Hmmmmmmmmmmm.
Thanks for the info. That's what I was afraid of. No wonder Dell just replaces the unit for some.

The problem is the one with the bad connector pins is a nicer unit. I wonder if its even possible.

If they are identical, swapping the LCD assembly and case shouldn't be hard. That is, if by "nicer", you mean that the case is not beat up as bad.

Swapping connectors should be "possible", just not easy.

Yeah.....think you're gonna hafta define "nicer".

The case is easily swappable between The same Models. (X5, X3x, X50x).

Yes, that is what I meant. I guess when I tear into it I'll check it out. I was wondering if anyone has ever tried it. Considering there has been a lot of people talking about having the pins bent...including me.

If it is soldered on the board, that could be risky. Although, what have I got to lose? Two units instead of one? Hmmmmmmmmmmm?!?!?

Ok, I tore into the X3 and replaced the screen. Now if I can do that, anyone can. The connector pins are definately soldered on there. It looks like it may be possible to swap it but I haven't messed with it yet. I have an ax with a trashed screen and bent pins now. Any idea what to do with it. I might just take it out and put a .45ACP thru it. But first I thin I'll try to remove the pins to see if it can be done.

I followed directions from a website, can't remember which one, to swap out the screen and everything works fine. My son learned an expensive lesson. Don't put a Dell flip-type case in your pocket. The magnetic button smashed against the screen and trashed it. He was totally bummed. But we got him back in businees.
