Axim screen is just colored vertical lines, is it toast?
Well, I used my axim earlier today and it worked just fine.

Then I turned it off and turned it back on about 15-20 mins later and half the screen was white while the other half was red and blue vertical lines.

I am planning on calling Dell tomorrow to find out about warranty, exchange etc...

I tried resetting, (no hardware reset tried yet), but what can I expect from Dell?

Has anyone had this problem happen to them?

How long do warranty replacements take? I use mine for work so being without it will be problematic.

Thanks

P.S. I was able to get wifi working earlier (I have a PW programmed in that takes 15 mins to activate) and I can hear my Axim respond to screen presses. So I;m guessing its the touch screen. Don't know if this helps but thought I'd mention it.

Dell will have you do a hard reset. If they send you a replacement it should only take a couple of days. There have been others with the same problem but I don't remember the solution they used. You may want to do a search.Good luck and I hope all turns out well.

Well, can you eat it?

Couldn't resist.

But seriously, try the hard reset first.

I think I did try a hard reset
I hit the soft reset button and the power on button, but the screen is all funky so I cant see whats actually going on.

I have also let the main battery stay out for over 1 hr and same problem.

Yes, it is most likely completely broken. I had to buy a new assembly, cost + shipping was about $160, nearly as much as the axim itself. Try opening it up and moving the cables about, it might come back to life, though its unlikely. Yes, Dell's service really is that good once they have your money :/

The soft reset didn't fix it? Could you use it after a soft reset?

I Fixed It!!!
fellow axim owners, let me make you the happiest people on the planet!

I had the same problem, so I found this forum and saw that it wasn't just me...my warranty was also up. I chatted with dell, they gave me the "its out of warranty, buy a new one" crap, so I said screw it and I threw it in my drawer until I remembered it today...

So I open the axim and find it to be very dusty...i blow the dust off and I see this one golden cable is loose...so I put it back and place and TADA...it worked!

check out my flickr page for a picture [with notes]. thank you people for helping me figure this out so i can help you fix yours! [did that make any sense? ]

In the photo it shows that ribbon being held down by a nice brown clip. Well, while doing a screen replacement on this X3 i just bouoght, i broke the little piece of plastic that it hinges on, on the bottom. Does ANYONE know if that lock has to be down for the screen to work? I'm trying to figure out whether the new screen i bought is defective, or if because the lock is broken the cable isn't touching the contact points, or if the pda is just toast.

if you know the answer to any of these questions, please post ASAP, or email me at evilevilwayz@aol.com. I'm mid transplant and out of ideas.

If the brown hinge is broken, you will not get a good connection.

You can try using both parts of this hinge together, sometimes this will work, but without a replacement hinge, you've got problems.

I don't know of anywhere that sells these, but you should try the company that sold you your new screen ( or if not, try Pocketpctechs.com)

being the master A+ technician that I am, I just jammed the hinge under the ribbon as hard as I could, and it works now. Thanks for the advice though, it was about to become tiny pieces of an Axim X3 scattered about my living room.
