ActiveSync problems...
ActiveSync will no longer recognize my Axim X3. When I run the 'get connected' on ActiveSync I get the 'not connected' message. I am using USB connection and ActiveSync shows my USB port as active. I tried three different USB ports with the same results. I When I turn on my Axim I get the pop up messages ‘cannot execute repllog.exe’ and ‘cannot execute connmgr.exe. I have done the power on button hard reset thing. Reinstalled ActiveSync rebooted my computer. Every thing was fine and then this started. I have been using the unit for two months with no problems. I got it from my son. He said it did not come with a system disk. That seems rather odd as my old Axim X5 came with one. I no longer have the X5. I just purchased a new GPS system for my X3. Sure would like to try it out. My desktop is Intel P4 with XP pro. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

KI…

Uninstall the Dell Axim USB device under Device Manager. Reboot your machine & try again. You may have to choose "Show hidden Devices" for the Axim USB device to show up.

Thanks for the info Wooch. I tried all that. Still the same. Downloaded the latest ActiveSynk (3.8). Device Manager shows the 'Dell Axim USB sync" working properly. Could some of the system files on the Axim have become corrupted? If so how can I repair the OS if I can't synk? What a bummer.

Thanks...

I'm wondering, how much program and storage memory do you have free in Main Memory? I'm wondering if you're low on memory and these files can't run. Start - settings - syetem - Memory. This will show you your memory allocation.

Storage allocated: 17.95MB, in use: 0.49MB, Free:17.46MB. Program allocated: 45.34MB, in use: 8.69MB, Free: 36.65.

These are the default settings. I have not altered them. There are no programs in memory now that I know of because I perfformed a power button/hard reset. The running program list shows only 'Cursor window' as the running programs. That is after I tapped the 'stop all' radio button.

Thanks for the help. I appreciate it.

This same thing happened to me. You might want to try backing up your files and then doing a hard reset. It worked for me. And if that doesnt help look to see if your virus protection is blocking it, then unblock it.

My X3 may have more serious problems. I have system files that may be missing or corrupt. A hard reset gives me a blank blue screen. I am wondering if there is a repair shop that would check the Axim and perhaps re-install the ROM. The unit won’t sync at all now.

Thanks and,
Regards...

Can not sync
I am having a similiar problem, I can not get my AXIM X3 to sync. Worked fine for almost a year, now nothing. I read in the help that their is a partnership file created and stored on both the computer and AXIM. I remember doing that a while ago but I can not get the partnership screen to come up to create a new one. Any ideas on where or how to initiate that function.

Since you said you are using XP Pro, do you have SP 2 installed? if so is your firewall turned on? You may want to try turning it off and see if that helps.

What version of active sync are you running?

Are you connecting directly to your PC/laptop, or thru a usb hub?

Let us know,

Let us know,
My X3 is now functioning normally. Here is what I did. Remove the main battery. Let the Axim set for a few days with the battery removed. Un-install active sync and unplug the USB cable. From the dell.com support/download web site download the file R80976.EXE and save to your desktop or other folder. After a few days re-insert the Axim battery. Do a hard reset. Re-install active sync. Plug in the Axim USB cable to your PC. At that time active sync (version 3.7.1) recognized my Axim and set up a new partnership. I double clicked the R80976.EXE file. It’s a self extracting file. It installed itself and started an upgrade of my Axim ROM files. My Axim now performs as new. More experienced users may feel this is a very clumsy procedure. All I know is my X3 was un-usable for a period of weeks but now it is normal in all respects. My Axim had some corrupted system files. Your Axim could have a hardware related issue so you may not have the same results as I did. I have WinXP/SP2 and USB, active sync 3.7.1. My firewall is the built in XP version and it is set to ‘ON’.

I can now use my X3 for GPS again. I was going blind squinting at the screen on my cell phone for my GPS maps. Thanks to all that offered help with my Axim problems. Good luck with yours.

Glad you got if fixed..not sure if you had to wait that day, but whatever works. Did Dell give you those instructions? or was this something you thought of on your own?

Reason for leaving it with battery out for two days was because I was away from home for the weekend and had not remembered to put the battery back in. The only way I could get my X3 to reset was to remove the battery for a few hours. Otherwise it stayed locked on the plain blue screen. I went to the Dell website and downloaded all the X3 files I could find. Then I went thru all the steps described to get the X3 to sync and carry out the ‘upgrade’. I have no idea if I now have a newer version of ROM than before. My ‘About’ screen lists the ROM as A02 (04080402EN). PPC version as 4.20.0 (build 13349). I just stumbled around until something worked and returned my X3 to a usable condition. Just one of those rare times when pure dumb luck won out over technical expertise.

Also, my A3 USB connection is direct to my PC, not on a hub.
