Broken Sync Connectors in UK
Hi,

I recently bought an x3 on eBay with broken connector pins. I thought it would be fairly easy to get repaired...... Wrong!

I discovered that if the unit is out of warranty in the UK, you are in trouble! The only place I could find on the net which would carry out a repair was in the states (PPCtech). Although several people sent me a link to expansys.com in manchester. When I asked them, they told me that they don't repair x3s!

I finally found somewhere that would sell me replacement connectors (much better quality than the originals) and sweet talked my husband, (don't worry. It's his line of work) and I am now the owner of a fully functioning dell x3.... YAY!

So now I'm curious... how many people are there in the uk making do with synchronizing via ir or bluetooth?? or even worse! throwing away an otherwise perfect pda??

Let me know...

If there is enough interest, we are willing to buy in a load of connectors and set up a repair service. Reasonably priced.

Thanks for listening to my long and boring tale. I hope we can be of help.

Best wishes

Sapphire

Will do. If you don't mind me asking, how much did it set you back to get it fixed inc. postage?

Yes, I would need it too. I have a "partially" broken sync connector on my X3i, because I tried to sync my PDA in its metal case. A plastic part of the connector came out, but currently I am still able to sync, but the connector is very loose. Eventually I need to replace it. Would you mind telling us how much it would cost??

At the moment the price is £40, we're still having to pay retail for the connectors and have them shipped over from the states. Let me know how this compares to other repair sites. Of course posting the thing to us would be cheaper and lower risk. This price may or may not come down in the future, it depends on whether we can find a source for the connectors.

Same problem in Norway
I just got the same answer from Dell in Norway. If it is possible to have it fixed in UK, I am interested.

Hi,
If you are interested, email me: emma@sapphire2803.co.uk
Hubby is away on business from the 1st July. So anyone who wants a connector fitted before he goes shout now!
It's £40 and he sends the unit back special delivery within 24 hours of receiving it.

Best wishes

Hi,
We now have a site set up for axim connector repairs http://www.pdafix.co.uk/
All details are there. Also don't forget when you're pricing up, that although some places in the states repair for $60 they also charge around $30 for return postage and you have to pay to send it to the states registered airmail.
Best regards
Sapphire

Interestingly enough, I've just had my X3 repaired in the UK by expansys (broken sync-ports). I think it depends who you talk to as to what answer you get.

Only problem now is that, whilst the PDA fits the cradle fine, we can no longer get our Tom-Tom GPS receiver to fit !

Sync-port does look different, more robust rather than the "bare" pins (looks like they are ounted on a solid base). Any ideas what model Axim's sync-port they have given me ?
