Screen doesn't respond

When I turn on my Axim X3 the screen won't respond to tapping with the stylus. Am I doing something wrong?

Have you install a screen protector? If so try removing it and test the screen again. BTW Welcome to aximsite :approve:

If you have something stuck between the edge of the screen and the surrounding frame it will cause the symptoms you describe. It could be the edge of a screen protector incorrectly fitted or simply dirt. Try running a business card around the edge under the frame.

I have had the same problem with my x3i on a few occasions. I've had very limited success with the following, at one time or another: soft reset, hard reset, turning it off and then back on, syncing, etc., etc.....

Sometimes one of these things would fix it, sometimes none of them would. Tonight, it happened again. Screen would not respond to taps, even though the buttons and scroll wheel were working fine. I found an old archive on this site where one person said that they read somewhere that lightly squeezing the screen fixed their problem. VIOLA!!! It worked for me, too.

After reading davrol's response above, I think this may have been my problem, at least part of the time. Squeezing the screen probably dislodged the offending piece of dirt. All the previous times, the dirt probably eventually got knocked out due to all the jostling... :D

Anywho, next time it happens, I'll try running a business card along the edges of the screen...

Thanks, Aximsite community!

Actually the screen won't respond to tap & no sound would come out as well

I use to do all the stuff mentioned.

Luckily I accidentally dropped my PDA and damaged the screen.
So I went and bought a PDA with a dead board in ebay.

I switch the screen and those issue were still happening.
I tried switching the backup battery & the problem is now gone (most of the time).

So the backup battery might be dead;
(I am not sure that this is the reason of these occurances, but this did solve the problem for my X3)

If you have a screen protector over the the screen take it off. I had the same problem.

I had that problem, and I think it was related to having too much "stuff" in my Belkin case - business cards and SD cards. When the case was closed, there was always pressure on the screen. The problem always seemed to "go away" after a while (after the case had been open a while, hence no continuous pressure) and so I removed the business cards and haven't seen the problem since. I can see where dirt or a screen protector jammed into the edges of the screen could cause the same issue.
