Anyone had pins replaced?
Apart from Sapphire 2803, has anyone else had the pins replaced on their Axim X3i? Why does Dell say it can't be done (apart from the obvious reason to sell new Axims) when there seems to be places where it is done?

.
.

Dell only says that they won't do it, not that it can't be done.

PDA Repairs are not in their Business Model, other than Software/Firmware reflashing.

Yep, I got a new connector at pdasmart.com, they even install it for you. It cost 33 dollars and U$ 70 including instalation. They also sell screens and everything else. I have a quick question for you though, I bought an used axim 3i and change the connector which was totally destroyed. I thought this was the problem why I couldn't get a partnership with my pc. Even after the new connector I cannot make my computers recognize the pda. Any thoughts? I have windows XP on my computer and I installed the AS 3.8

The bent pins in the axim probably damaged the connector on the cradle. Check to see if they are ok - if not get a cheapo sync-n-charge cable

I always thought it was the "cheapo sync-n-charge cable" that damaged the connector

It was Dells travel plug that broke my pins

Actually, that's the same thing - from my point of view.

It's the little metal clips that lock the plug into the connector on the bottom of the Axim that break it. If you don't depress the release buttons, or the cable gets tugged or jerked - that'll do it, regardless of who sold the cable.

I had the same problem with my axim not syncing and eventually not charging. It was out of warrenty so no one to fix it. I opened it up and found that the device connector was not connected to the bus in side. either it was always like this or after using the docking cradle it made a clean break. I was lucky enough to be around a guy who could solder well and he fixed it for me.... but it is not strong and anticipate it breaking again soon.

Just got mine replaced from pocketpctechs.com.
They did a great job, exceptionally quick turn around, and they did an "expert" installation of the screen protector I bought from them that was far better than any of the bubbled jobs I have been able to do myself.
Pins seem to be just fine, and I can use my accessories again.
