Power problems, very sad

Long story made not so long... a short time ago my Axim hit the floor, and messed up the LCD. Trying to cheap out I purchased a used unit with "power issues" (screen blacks out then reappears intermittantly with power on) thinking that the screen would be fine. Well, I transfered the screen and then my unit developed the "power issues". So I ordered a brand new screen. I've installed it tonight and the on-off nonsense is still there.

Before I get fed up and throw everything in the garbage and take a $300 CDN loss (paid just in the last week) does anyone have any suggestions? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Are the battery contact clean, free and put enough pressure to the contact point? Is the battery loose in its sitting area? Is the power buttin secured? Have you tried with another battery to see if the problem is still there?

The battery is as tight as it's ever been, connections are very clean and the power button seems fine. When you press the power button after the screen goes dark, there is a small flash as the unit turns off, so I'm pretty sure it's not the button itself.

Check the cable connection with the new screen. Have you tried contacting the folks you bought the new screen from for advice?

I was pretty carefull to get the connections all the way in before clamping them down, but I will check them again tomorrow. I don't know if the supplier I purchased the new screen from will be much help, but I will also give them a shout tomorrow (they're long since closed for today).

Anyway, I'm done for tonight, thank you both for your advice!

There is a chance that the backup battery is dead.

I don't know the logic behind it, these symptoms happened to my X3 as well.

Mine would first flicker once and the screen won't respond to tap(arround battery level of 60-50%).
Then I do a off/on, which temp fix for a few min; and eventually it just blink(until I got to my adapter and charge it again)

And then I had a major drop which ruin the screen; so I went on ebay and bought X3 with a dead board.

When I fixed the screen, but the screen problem was still there.
And then I switched the backup battery.

Now my X3 is fine most of the time.

------
Try switching your backup battery, since you also have the spare part from the other dead X3. (It is the green thing after you remove the board from the PDA)

Mine has been acting that way for about 6 months now, so bad lately I went ahead and took the plunge... as soon as my x50v arrives(3 days and counting), I'm going to open 'er up and replace that bub... if that doesn't work I'll try a new main battery..... anyone want to get rid of one??

update:

went ahead and picked up a new main batt with no bub change.... all problems seem to be fixed..

UPDATE 2:

Nope, not fixed all the way,... but it's better. New bub next.
