Worried x3i backup battery low

what do you do when your backup battery is "dangerously" low. I cant seem to find access to a small coin battery, nothing is in the manual, and various internet sites say its replaceable and others not. What is the required action?

please help!

It's an internal rechargeable battery, and NOT replaceable. Only the X5 series have replaceable throw-away batteries.

The only way to charge it is through your regular charging of the main battery.

BTW, welcome to Aximsite!

That is a BIG negative. Read Gigi's response above. She is correct that it is not user-replaceable on the X3 series.

Ditto, My X3i sat for about 6 months and now the Backup Battery will not take a charge and says "abnormal, removal of battery will cause data loss" (paraphrased) I have another axim with a busted bottom port and it has a backup battery that always charges and holds my data. can I swap them easily? the warranty is already gone so I have nothing to lose.

thanks

Adam

I swapped the batteries and have the same problem, is there anyway to force the backup battery to charge or cycle?

I can only say that my warnings disappeared after I simply purchased a "pre-packaged" Duracell watch battery and not just one from the clerk who reached into a drawer for a cheap generic battery.
Someone earlier mentioned a study revealing voltage differences among various brands and the failure of the Axim to read the voltage properly on some brand new batteries. The above worked for me but I am certainly not an expert. I would suggest spending the two dollars for a better battery if this fits your particular scenario.

Are you sure you have the X3i and not an X5?

I am currently working to replace my gf's BUB on her out of warranty X3.

The BUB on the X3 is a Varta V20HR, I will be using a electronically conductive epoxy to reconnect the X3 +/- leads on the BUB..

I'll take pics and post instuctions when I get the replacement V20HRs I ordered.

Ive been posting for what seems like a YEAR now on this same question. In that amount of time I have been unable to use the x3i so much as once.

Is it replaceable or not. Tenc, it sounds like youve cracked it open and found the battery. I didnt see a battery in there. Please shoot me an email with pics if you have them and info on where to get the battery. I REALLY REALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLY appreciate your help.

I would suggest to call dell tech support for a replacement battery, specially if it happens within one year, but knowing how to replace it manually would really help when your warranty already expired for the axim.

Here's the scoop:

It is replacable, but, it involves disassembling the Axim, so its not considered "user replacable". I've not found a replacement battery (with the epoxy & wires). PPC Techs claim they have them, but I'm thinking they are referring to a replacement main battery. Tenc hi4u's post was extremely helpful. I'm going to follow up with PPC techs to ensure that they do have the backup batteries.

My unit has been out of warranty since this problem started last year. Tenc, I still havent been able to get a hold of you. Any luck with the swap? I located that battery on a website for a $1.45 so if its swapable, I am certainly down!

Here is an image. I think the little round thing that says "5R6" is the culprit.

Swap was a success.

The BUB is NOT that little circle referenced in the picture.

It is wrapped in a green heatsrhink type material.

You will need a new BUB and either REALLY conductive cold solder (not hot holder) opr any other VERY electrically conductive adhezive. DO NOT use a hotsoldering iron to connect the leads to the new BUB.

Good Luck
