Question Please help! X30 and sound hiss

Today I got my Axim X30 (REV A07) with german Rom A01 (Windows Mobile 2003 SE Version 4.21.1088, Build 14260.2.0.2)
and I recognized with my In-Ear Sony MDR-EX71 a really strange high-frequent hiss if I play music (Gsplayer tested) and pause the music or turn off the volume.

But I need a X30 without this hiss.
If I send back this device, I'll get another. And I bet: the next one has the same problem.
But what can I do?
Is there a fix?
Should I install the newest englisch-Rom?
Or to whome I may consult: The reseller or direct to Dell?
Can I suggest them to test the device before they send it to me?
I doesn't take more than a minute to recognize this strange hiss.

Please help me.

Regards

Terry

Many members complained about this one. I had an X30h but no hissing. Complain about it to Dell and specify that hissing free device is needed. They have some that do not hiss.

I hope so, too that they have some without this disgusting hiss.
But what shall I do know?
I bought the device from a german reseller (about 25% less prize).
I tried the dell-homepage to get an email contact to the technical support, but they didn't accept my service tag (couldn't find the number).
How can I contact Dell directly?

Did you look behind the battery?

Yes. Perhaps Dell blocked the number, because the devices are bought from third party...
Does anyone has a contacting email for europe?

No, it was only a problem with Firefox. He only accepts my IE.

I'll send the device back to the reseller today.
I wrote him, that I didn't accept any not funktional device especially with this bad background hiss.

Exclamation Solution

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SOLUTION to this problem is quite simple

Use headphones above 16 ohm resistance use 32 ohm (or even 42ohm or 64ohm).

it goes like this i gues:

more( ohm )= less^2 ( hiss)

It seems like the small build in amplifier of Axim x30 does not handle 16ohm headphones properly. Maybe that’s because a 16ohm headphones creates overload electrical current so that build in quantisation filtering module can not handle hiss filtering or maybe 16 ohm headphones have some special inductance and capacity that makes them catch
some inner 624Mhz processor radio frequency.

As you have probably noticed there was no noise while you hear system sounds and hiss is audible only during hardworking decompression of mp3 or wma. The software based decompression have cpu to work harder. Hiss have almost constant amplitude regardless the volume position. That seems like some constant hiss is audible inner cpu radio frequency that headphone catches or some quantisation process noise that can not be filter out by output sound module amplifier. 32 ohm headphonse resolves that problem by considerably decreasing hissing sound.

If the volume is not enough for you with 32 ohm (16 ohm sounds louder) then by yourself "in-ear" 32ohm ( or even 42 or 64 ohm) type headphones. Sound should be clear and audible enough to walk in city traffic.
