Crashing and having to wipe memory all the time

Hi all,

I bought the Dell Axim X30 only 3 months ago and had to send it back because the screen was flickering like mad and there were also hardware problems. However, the new one I have keeps crashing for some reason. It will be sat alone for about an hour, I come back to it, and lo and behold, it has turned itself off. A reset will not help, as it gives me the option to clear the memory, but if I opt for no, it displays the Dell logo permanently. I have had to hard reset the PDA 3 times in the 2 weeks I have had it, which means losing all data and programs. It's becoming a real pain now, not to mention the length of time it took Dell to respond to my first query. It took nearly 2 months to replace the original model, because their customer service is apalling. Then, they lost the new Axim and a third party company had to come to the rescue. I really don't want to go through that again - please help...

Are you still under warranty? If so, get on the Chat Tech Support. I had almost the same issue exactly and they offered a replacement in less than 5 minutes of chat interaction. It's much better than telephone or email, although the language skills of the reps seems to vary significantly from one to another. I had to actually dump one chat session completely becuase they could not understand what I was asking.

Unfortunately I'm having the same problem with an X30H that I purchased off ebay recently. It works perfectly fine if you ignore the fact that you MUST hard reset every few hours. A soft reset almost always results in getting stuck on the dell screen. On the few times it doesn't get stuck it hard resets on it's own without asking! Sometimes it will even shut down on the dell screen, reboot, and repeat. The only way to stop it is to hard reset, go through the windows setup and then turn it off or simply take the battery out and let it die.

I've tried updating the ROM to from A05 to A06 with no help. And Even used the Axim CD to reload A00 and have the same resuts.

I've contacted the seller but havn't recieved a reply yet. Any advice on what can be done in the way of repairing my Axim? I'd rather not go thru the hassle of having to return it if possible. Other than constantly locking up and needing to be reset it works fine. It also only seems to lock up when not in use. Does anyone have any suggestions about how to fix it or what's causing it to lock up?

If nothing else I do have one saving grace out of this... I forked out the extra $$$ for paypal's money back guarantee that I can (and will) use if I really need to... but if anyone can offer a solution it'd be greatly appreciated. Thanks :)

@ Asterisk,Try removing and reinstalling the battery, make sure it is sitting in the Axim correctly. You should never have to Hard reset, Do you have any apps installed?, Try uninstalling them if you do. I am afraid though with the symptoms you are having, I think you should either call Dell or use your Paypal Remedy, sorry

I've tried using 3 different batteries. The standard battery that came with it, the standard battery that came with my X30Mid and the extended battery (2000mah mugen) that I had for my X30Mid...

As you can probably guess I bought an X30H to replace my X30Mid but still be able to use the case and batteries ;) Well it seemed like a good idea... maybe it wasn't lol.

I have wondered if maybe the backup battery was dead, but I don't want to risk opening it up in case I have to return it so the seller or PayPal can't say I tampered with it.

It has nothing to do with the BUB so leave it alone, I would call PayPal and get reimbursed, then try Dells Refurb section for another one:approve:

After not recieving any replies from the seller for a few days I've decided to go the reimbursement route as the seller obviously isn't making any efforts to resolve this.

Dell customer service even told me to get a reimbursement, as the Axim is out of warranty and the seller never replied when I asked him to transfer owner ship (and never did transfer it according to Dell).

Thanks for your advice rsaturn9 :) it's greatly appreciated

Hi there.

Thanks for your replies. I have only had it 2 months and I bought it from Dell. I phoned earlier this week, but the 'support' department could not communicate with me very well. However, I tried again and spoke to someone who helped me by sending me a new one. The new one works fine.

It does worry me that it's the 3rd one I've had in 2 months. I thought Dell were pretty reliable, but it seems there are many others with the same problem. Dell did tell me that it was a faulty product, so if anyone has had the same problem, they need to send it back.
