It depends on which version of Pocket Plus you have. The earlier version could only be installed to main memory, the latest version can run from built in storeage.

I run Pocket Plus from main memory, it doesn't take up that much space.

SD card info required

I am on to PocketPlus 3.1 Beta having owned it since version 2 and going through the various Beta programs. I think Spb programs are great.

I will use my Axim and see how things go as it stands.

I must say I've been greatly encouraged by all the responses.

I'm still looking for SD card info though (see previous posts of mine).

Sorry momgenie. I haven't exactly been ignoring that question; I just have no experience about where to find stuff in Scotland.

If you can use Amazon.co.uk, THIS CARD gets good reviews. I personally would look for cards similar to this that are the pro or elite versions since they are a LOT faster in card readers. I have the CF version of this card and it works like a charm.

Of course, if all you need is capacity, poke around looking at all the SD cards to see if you can find a more economical one. Your Axim won't really read and write to it much faster or slower using any of today's current cards. The speed benefits are noticed more when using card readers on USB 2.0 ports.

ebuyer is a source of very cheap flash memory.... just ignore the special offer they have on Magicstor microdrives though... they have very 'mixed' reviews here on aximsite

I have the X30 with 624 and 64megs.
From what ive read i can load all my images, notes, files, applications such as Skype all on to my SD card and accsses run them from there? In that case i wouldent have to back up as everythings safe on the extermal card??

Also i have a high speed card and a "normal" card but i dont see any difference in accsses speed?? both are fast??

Yes, you can store most things on the SD card.

No, the SD card isn't any more "safe" than main memory. In fact, you're more likely to have an occasional problem with the SD card. You need to determine if it's worth freeing up some main memory knowing that you MIGHT have problems with the SD at some point. I'd recommend that if you use the SD to store and install most of your stuff that you do a simple copy to your main PC using a card reader on a somewhat regular basis.

High speed and normal cards won't perform all that much differently in you Axim. If you're using an external card reader to access, read, or write data to the card, you'll notice a large difference between the two.

Yes, I'd like an answer to that too. I've backed up to my desktop PC using Active Sync, and to BIS using Spb Backup Beta.

I do not have this folder as I just use drag and drop to get the files precisely where I want them. So where is it getting them from? I've set ActiveSync to back up each time I sync.

Good.

I do use Amazon UK. I have now ordered this card, it seems a good buy. Hope it comes before the whole country shuts down for Christmas!
I will use the Axim for a while and see how I get on. Thanks to everybody who replied.

Hey ladies. I just reread susanx30's question a little more closely.

If you're installing applications and documents to the SD card, you should now back up TWICE instead of not at all.

First, you should periodically back up the main memory using either the backup utility in ActiveSync or a third-party software such as Sprite Backup. This will back up your registry, databases (contacts, appointments, tasks, notes, etc), and any software that HAD to install to Main Memory.

Second, you should also do a simple copying of all files on your SD card at the same time. This will effectively back up your programs and documents that are stored on the SD card.

Hope this helps!

Mad The saga of memory

For the first time ever I Hard Reset my Axim X30 32MB.

Now BEFORE I install any apps:
Main memory: 31.41MB
Storage Allocated: 15.71MB
Storage In Use: 0.58MB
Storage Free: 15.13MB
Program Allocated: 15.70MB
Program In Use: 8.67MB

Program Free: 7.03MB
It doesn't leave much, does it?

I contacted Spb and they thought I should be able to install PocketPlus and Diary where I want with most SD cards.

At my last installation with Diary in BIS and PocketPlus in Main Storage the system was still unstable telling me to close down PocketPlus.

The SD card is 'empty' yet shows In Use: 6.04MB. I have ticked View All Files and checked it in my Card Reader for 'Hidden' Files.

What do you suggest?

As for the Main Memory before you install anything, you can adjust how the memory is split between Storage and Program. If you are planning on using the storage card to put programs and documents (as is recommended), you can decrease the Storage and as a result increase the Program memory.

To do this, go to START > SETTINGS > SYSTEM > MEMORY and drag the slider quite a bit to the left. My x50v shows that I have a total of 61.75 MB. I have it split into Storage Allocated: 19.85 MB and Program Allocated: 41.90 MB. I'd probably recommend you try approx 8-10 MB for Storage and the rest for Program. This will make sure you have enough free RAM (Program Memory) for your Axim to continue running its processes efficiently.

To free up that last little bit on your storage card, if you're sure there's nothing on it you need, you can format it using File Explorer. That will get you the most available storage.

Also, doesn't your Axim have a "Built-In Storage"? You can use it just like an SD or CF card. It's exactly the same, except it's built-in.

I thought if I moved the slider the System just overrode my settings according to its needs?

There's definitely nothing I need on the SD card, as I'm starting from scratch, particularly when my larger card arrives.

I forgot to give the BIS figures: total memory 2.70MB
In Use: 0.25MB
Free: 2.45MB
Folder WMDRM containing 132K 14003531C04...
File ignore_my_docs 0B
These keep turning up even when I delete them.

Yes, the system will nudge your settings a bit if it needs to, but the slider should definitely be farther to the left.

Your BIS looks a little strange. Only 2.70 MB? If that's true, I don't know why they even bothered. Anyway, the ignore_my_docs and WMDRM items are nomral. The ignore_my_docs helps the file explorer know how to handle a My Documents folder on that storage medium. You'll see it on your SD cards, too. The WMDRM folder is created when you play multimedia from that storage location with Windows Media Player. Not much you can do about that.

Here I go again

Right, all is once more installed. Spb Diary wouldn't allow itself to be placed on any type of 'storage card', setup halted. It went in Main Memory. Spb everything else went to SD card. Wake-up tweak to BIS.

Now I wait and see.

Thank you again.

I have 64megs main memory and 512megs SD card,
if i have 128megs photo storage. 30mega applications, and 5meges saved email plus a few megs of other notes and files where will this back up be stored and how?

Or can i only back up online when i use an SD card with a lot more memory than the main memory???

Ive made a back up for my PC several times but it fails when i try to reinstall after a crash. Solution i bought an IBM

Befor the IBM i couldent reinstall from a back up either from an external HHD nor the HD after crashes have lost all my data from my PDA i go back to all the info sorces and try to get back to the way it was.

I keep my bookmarks on a SD card but applications such as Skype are gone untill i meet my PC again

Back ups are a mystery !!??
