Worried X30i Not Powering On Without Ridiculous Steps

Last Friday (posting this on a Weds.), my x30i was working fine. I synched it and tossed it into my carry bag in it's belt case for the weekend. Sunday, when I went to use it, I found that the battery had died somehow. Perhaps the power switch was pressed on, who knows, but it was dead.

I wasn't able to get it back on the charger dock until last night (Tues.) and after it had charged a little, I was able to sync it, albeit having to set up a new partnership, etc. It charged for at least 12 hours and was on in the dock and looking OK.

I go to use it at work and it won't power up at all. I pop out the main battery and reseat it and after a couple of times, the Dell screen comes up as if a soft reset had been done. I use it for a few moments, power it off and the next time I want to turn it on, it's dead again - rinse, repeat, get annoyed.

One time, the clock was at Midnight, 1/1/80. I checked the power settings and it showed 75% main and Normal on the backup battery. After a few hours of non-use, I tried to turn it on (same drill) and this time got the Low Battery warning. Checked Power and now the main battery is at 13% despite being off.

What's going on and what's my next move? Unit is 2 years old - I joined here 8/4/04 - and the wi-fi and BT haven't worked in a year since the poor thing took a spill onto a concrete floor. PDA functions have been fine and I'm not really in the mood to drop three bills on a new unit at the moment. Any suggestions? TIA!

I came home and took the battery off and charged it separately from the Axim. After 8+ hours, I put it together and fired it up and got an message that there was a memory error. I had gotten this before, but hadn't gone with the nuke option. This time I did and it appears to be behaving now. If it goes sideways again, I'll update this.

it's soundin like you had a software problem of some sort. Maybe a virus or something. Glad you got it going again.

check what you have running. I have a x50v, but I had the same complaint: battery dead after a few hours.

It turned out that my "screen saveer", really a app to flash pictures when it was not beening actively used was eatting the CPU even when it was "off". After I disabled this app, I never had any such problems.

The app was: docware.

The moral is, check what apps are starting when the unit starts...

Good Luck.

I had a similar problem. I sent my Axim to PocketPCTechs.com & they diagnosed and repaired the problem quickly. They were easy to deal with, too.

Other error messages I had related to this problem:

A memory error has been detected...

Green/Oragne power button flashing

Good luck!
