After syncing my X30 last week, the display only stays visible for about 5 seconds then goes dark. It still works because you can barely see what is on the screen. Apparently the backlight just goes off. It works fine when plugged in to sync. Does this sound like just the battery is not holding a charge? When my last PDA did something similar I shelled out bucks for a new battery and still ended up having to upgrade. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Check your settings - Start, Settings, System (tab), Brightness and see if the slider for 'On battery power:' is set low.

Thanks a bunch, Ike, it looks like that is all there was to it. Any idea how it could have gone to dim after a year's worth of use without me knowingly changing any settings?

If you hold down the power button more than a second or so, the X30 will turn off the backlight (rather than actually turning off the device). If you did this once, it will remember the 'dim on battery' setting and keep doing it until you change it.

did you try to adjust the backlight settings. There is the option to have the backlight dim after 5 seconds. I had this same problem. go to the backlight settings and adjust the time to dim for longer.
