Aximsitex3icon Random dead pixels

I have a Dell Axim X30... which now, since there are very few pocket pc only devices left, became a ton more valuable to me.

Yesterday, I got 5 blown pixels on my screen. I cannot trace down a reason. They are all together, all grey/black, all in a horizontal line. Sigh...

Today, I have 15. Now on two separate lines, near each other still, same grey/black color, and the lines are connected but still horizontal. I prepare to back up my device, deciding to try and re-seat the LCD connector... after the backup process is complete through Activesync (yes, I used other mechanisms as well), I now have 5 pixels dead (?) and only ONE of them was in the original pixels I mentioned... in fact, the other 4 were not even in this second batch...

After re-seating the connector twice... no dice... not any better.

So, I assume my screen is dying? What else can I do?

I found my problem described in this thread also... recommendation is to leave the device on, or keep using it, until the pixels vanish...

Update ::
After leaving my screen on, while the device was docked, and displaying a solid white background... the pixels, one by one and slowly, went to a dim red and then to a very working white. Now, all the pixels are restored and my device seems to be working fine. It took several hours for that to happen though. I think the reason why I had problems was because the temperatures in this area went from 70s to about 25 in one day... but the cold hasn't effected my device before... strange.

Icon14 same issue

yah, ok this sux. I just bought this thing a little over a month ago on ebay and today I got a very pretty almost solid grey line across the screen. I tried rubbing the pixels, it cut the problem down about half. Then I tried your technique of the white screen idea, and it is starting to work! I came back down stairs after a few minutes to check on it and some of the pixels have turned red! wooot :approve:. Now i just have to wait 5 years for them to turn white.

anyway, thanks gt24, now I won't have to smack myself for spending $165 on 1 month of fun. Hopefully this contiunes to fix my problem .

BTW, an easy way to get an all white (or mostly white) screen is:
1. go into internet explorer
2. type in "about: blank" without quotes in the address bar

Fortunately, after the above incident, my PDA has been working flawlessly to this day. Good thing too... there aren't going to be any more Axims!
