Removing Battery for few minutes causes Hard Reset

I recently purchased a used X30 and I removed my battery to see if it was the original, or a replacement. I did not power it off first, so when I replaced the battery the unit froze and I had to do a hard reset.

The 2nd time I remembered to power off my X30 before I removed the battery. Once again, my X30 froze and I had to do a hard reset.

Just want to know if anyone has the problem of removing their battery from the x30 and then always having to do a hard reset.

Also, when the screen comes on asking if you want to do a erase memory or not, my dell seems to lock up if I choose not to, so I wind up having to factory reset and restore from my backup.

I just ordered a replacement battery and a afraid this will happen each time I remove a battery.

A backup battery is supposed to hold data for 30min so u can easily swap batteries. Apparently ur backup batt is bad/not holding charge.

Unfortunately u lost all data. Just remember to keep a backup stored on a memory card, in case this happens again. That way u can just restore the backup and be back to where u were before. It takes a few minutes, literally. Unlike computers, which take hours...

No, removing the main battery should not require a hard reset when you try to turn the Axim back on. If this were the case, the main battery should never have been easily replaceable.

In any event, I think this issue is directly related to the first issue you posted about: your internal (or backup) battery is most likely dead. The backup battery, a little CRxxxx button sized I think, allows the Axim to go into 'sleep' mode when the main battery is disconnected. Since your backup battery seems to be dead, anytime you remove the main battery, your Axim's RAM cannot be powered whatsoever and poof(!), your data is lost.

If you haven't already, I would search the forums here for some variation of "replacing backup battery" to help solve your problems. Good luck.

Open the Settings screen, go to the System tab and open the Power applet, and check the value under Backup battery. It should say Normal there...

I wish removing the battery would cause a hard reset! I tried it yesterday and still can't get it to hard reset. My screen continues to have vertical lines which don't equate to anything. No buttons work, and I can't reset it.

Leave the main battery out for long enough and it will hard reset. The internal battery only lasts maybe 5-10 minutes IIRC, so remove main battery, leave it out for say 60 minutes (just to be sure) or even overnight and then plug it back in. If you still have the vertical lines, you have bigger problems...
