Mexican Blanket Question

My X30 went "crazy" the other day. It was a hot day, I do not think it was hit but it is possible... The screen has vertical lines similar-ish to the ones in the post by "REdge" http://www.aximsite.com/boards/x30-h...creen-fix.html

So on to the question, when I hit the power button it switches on, but when I press the power button again to switch off nothing happens. I have to pull the battery out to switch off.

Is this the mexican blanket problem (i.e. is it likely that a new screen will fix it)? Sadly I've not been near a machine where I could install active sync to find out if it is accessible via USB.

I managed to get access to a PC and active sync is a no go - so the unable to power off was an indication of something more sinister than just a bad screen :-(
