When I sync up my axim x30 the active sync appears to work. I then attempt to go to the explore on the active sync page and the mobile device page appears blank. I wait for about a minute I get a message telling me "critical communications have failed to start. Reset the mobile device and try again." I soft reset the X30 and have the same problem.
Gigi, I deleted and reinstalled AS but the problem still exists. Should I delete again and do a hard reset on the X30? The X30 has been so reliable I am at a lost. I need my PDA. Thanks
What version of AS are you running? Did you recently upgrade or downgrade AS?

Hi, I am running AS 3.8 which I got in the pkg with the PDA when I bought it. The only thing I have done to my PC recently was downloaded and installed Spyblaster. As soon as I had this problem I removed it from the PC. Could it have affected the PDA/PC connection through AS? I have had no problems accessing the programs. I tried to access the mobile device through My Computer also but to no avail.

Anything that affects connections (e.g., firewalls, etc.) can affect your ActiveSync connection. Try disabling/uninstalling.
Did you ever install ActiveSync 4.x? And then go back to Activesync 3.8?

Julie, no I did not. I will try soonest and let you know the results. I will go off line and disable my firewall first to see if that helps or fixes the trouble. It is really strange though. The programs are all on the X30 but when hooked up via the USB cable they will not appear on the PC. I have changed cables also. I think the problem may be with the PDA vs the PC. Will let you know after I have tried the two poss solutions. Thanks
The critical services issue may have to do with the RAPI.dll file that ActiveSync uses. If I were you, I would uninstall ActiveSync 3.8, then go to the \windows\system32 folder on your computer and delete the files below (assuming they are there):
rapi.dll
ceutils.dll
Then reinstall ActiveSync 3.8. Set up your partnership and try to sync.

Julie, thanks for the help. I don't know what happened but when I went back to delete the suggested files they were already gone. So on the third attempt to delete/install AS3.7 I was able to read the files on the PDA via the PC. The only thing I did different on the third attempt was enable the wifi on the PC so the AS could talk to MS. This let the AS bypass the firewall so perhaps the firewall remembered that and allow the setting to remain. Thanks again.
I'm glad to hear you got it working again. Hopefully, things will continue to work well for you and you won't encounter this problem again.
