Replacing battery contacts in the x3/x30

I already posted a few days ago about how my Axim kept losing power at frequent, random times. After some more research (here mainly), I'm pretty sure that the battery contacts in the Axim are going. Unfortunately, I'm not really sure of how to go about replacing them.

I'm not worried about opening the unit and getting to them (if needed) as that is documented, but it doesn't look like the actual act of replacing or solder more stuff onto the contacts is written about (though it was hinted at here: http://www.aximsite.com/boards/x30-h...ery-power.html )

If anyone can help or provide some basic information on how to go about this, it would be much appreciated. Things like what to use (pure copper or whatever is standard out there for conducting electricity in such electronics), things to watch out for, or just a good soldering website. :o

After some more research here (gotta love Aximsite! ), I am gonna try cleaning the battery contacts in the Axim first before doing any major 'surgery'. :o

I tried dabbing the contacts lightly with a Q-tip dipped in isopropanol alcohol. Unfortunately, that made the problem worse as the Axim did not want to power on anymore, but would still charge when plugged into the cradle.

Being exasperated, I decided to open up the Axim and see what I could of the battery contacts from the inside. Sadly I did not pick up anything obvious with my untrained eye. All I accomplished was hard resetting my device in the end...

Any advice or thoughts are welcome; it would suck to lose a venerable partner such as the x30. :(
