will start only after battery disconnect

I got a refurbished X30 from e-bay, 624mHz, running Pocket Windows 2003 SE (I believe). The only way I can start it is to briefly disconnect the battery, then re-insert it. The start button won’t start it otherwise. Is there some setting I’m missing? I am not exactly a newbie. I’ve owned an X30 since June, so neither am I extensively experienced. Is this fixable?

So is the button broken? Can you turn it off after you start it up?

Yes, after I disconnect and then re insert the battery I use the button to turn it on and then off. After that, pushing the start button does nothing until I go through the battery disconnect and re-insert procedure.
Thanks.

I'll offer my advice again after dealing with my refurb -- you may have a backup battery that either isn't responding correctly, or it's dead. Try an overnight charge. If you're still not getting it to go, try doing your battery-insert trick to get the Axim started, and then do a hard reset.

If you get the cryptic "to erase memory, press ..." go ahead and press the Contacts button (the one immediately to the left of the big central Navigator button) to do a full erase of volatile memory. (Don't worry, this won't erase all the Pocket Office suite of Word, Excel, etc.) This should do a clear flush of memory; it also resets the status report from the backup battery and, if it's fully charged, should allow you to turn the unit on and off without problems.

If that doesn't work, your backup battery may be toast, and you'll need to get it replaced. In any case, it's worth going through a full hard reset, if you haven't tried it already.

Hi!
I've just got myself a (refurbished) X30 (from ebay) and I've got the same problem! So far the only way I've found of solving it is the battery removal solution. The battery seems in good condition. Anyone solved the problem yet?

No real answer yet.

I've been working with this X30 for several weeks now, and can only sporadically get it to start by any other means than battery removal. I tried the hard reset, but that didn't seem to do anything permanent. Sometimes after doing a soft reset, I have been able to go through a series of starts without the battery removal, but only in quick succession, not after letting the unit sit. I have not had the case open, though.

It seems I have a useless unit. Therefore, I bought an X50 on e-bay. I hope that does better.

Do you use the "switcherbar" to close all open programs before shutting it off?
Or do you only clost the programs by pressing the X in the upper right corner?

Most PPC´s I have tried had to be soft resetted one or more times aday, if I was useing them alot. The X30s that I have used (7 of them at work) works fine if I exit the programs with switcherbar, or via "settings/system/memory/close programs". Nowdays they only hang the system if pushing the powerbutton while Tomtom gps is running (exit Tomtom first does the trick). And I do have to do a soft rst after I have used WIFI, otherwise other started programs often fails. Same is if I use charachter recognizer with the nordic characters loaded...

It seems to be an error with the MS software perhaps in combine with other sw?

Are you useing bios A05 or A06?

Could it help to loosen the cables to the motherboard? (loose connections...)?

Hope some of this is helpfull, if not -keep on searching

Palm-OS was a bit simpler in the old days, and less buggy, but running MS-OS, is a challenge! What can I say...

Kind regards / Gigante
