X30 Built-in storage

Hi all,

I just got a second hand X30(624Mhz CPU). It only has 30m built-in storage. Is it normal? Coz I checked the specification for 624Mhz CPU X30, it should have 64M, right?

Thanks

The X30 has 64MB RAM and 64MB ROM. The ROM stores a copy of the OS and some is left over and made available for file storage (this may be what you are seeing).

The PPC works off of RAM so a copy of the OS is also in it as well as your PIM data and any additional programs you've installed. With a 'fresh device,' this usually equates to about 30 also and is listed as free memory (so this also may be what you are seeing).

I only have 30.88 MB of Built-in Storage on my x30 High, for the reason that Ikehiker put forth. I think yours is normal, xcompass. :) Just think of how little BIS the x30 low owners get, though in reality BIS isn't essential for me.

! ---> Unused after switching to Nokia n800
x30 Thumbboard driver link (as Belkin graciously doesn't deign to use up space to support it anymore):

Yes, i agree. Even though im on the x50 i still dont use my bis. Seeing how cheap flash memory is and it will just get cheaper, its a great time to expand your memory.

The BIS would be shared between the OS and your own stuff which is why you don't get to use all of it. I figure the BIS is good for stuff you'll want to use a lot (for instance GS Finder as a file explorer) while the SD card's where you put games, media files, other documents, and stuff that won't fit in BIS. Save the main memory for stuff that needs to be there. (So get a cab installer so you can pick where cab stuff installs to.)
